Do NOT use this company! Worst move I could possibly have imagined in my worst nightmare. Velocity was subcontracted by International Van Lines to move a two-room apartment in NYC to Santa Fe, NM. I don’t recommend IVL either. The customer service from both companies was unresponsive, unprofessional and discourteous. As soon as the crew walked in the door, the crew lead asked me, demanded really, that I tip his crew 12%, and they had yet to do any work! I’m a fair tipper, but that amount (as I googled immediately) is above norm. The lead then proceeded to say I had much more inventory than listed, which was a lie. We actually carefully compared his list with mine, several times, and there was no discrepancy. He told me to pay him an extra $900 anyway or he would leave my move on the loading dock. This is extortion. I had no witnesses so at the very least have someone with you if you end up with this company. I had provided IVL with an accurate inventory list, updating it as requested two days prior to the move. I paid extra for the new (very accurate) inventory plus extra fees for “professional” packing for one set of china dishes and paintings. I had specifically requested picture boxes. The crew arrived without any. They chopped up some boxes and stuffed in my paintings with no protective wrapping (see photos). The china plates were stacked with no cushioning between them and covered with two pieces of tissue paper (see photos). I gave the lead the agreed contractual amount plus a $200 tip (for 3 hours work) which he threw on the kitchen counter. I tried to reach IVL the whole time Velocity was in the apartment, but IVL never picked up or returned my calls.When it was apparent I was not going to pay the unauthorized amount, he grabbed the check and cash and took off. This man was especially aggressive, unpleasant and downright scary. I believe he was capable of dumping my possessions on the side of a highway without remorse. I called and emailed both Velocity and IVL several times a day for an ENTIRE WEEK with NO response from either company while I drove to my new location, worried about my belongings the whole time. Finally IVL called back and assured me that my move was safely stored in Velocity’s storage warehouse in NJ. NOT. When the shipment arrived, MISSING was a valuable Oriental rug and MISSING was a large, plastic bin with table linens handed down from my mother and grandmother. Missing? An 8x10 rug?! This was the 3rd mover in 3 days. Our first mover which we had scheduled weeks in advance at the last minute said they couldn't come in the promised window and the furniture was going to be delivered later than expected while I would be away on a business trip, leaving my wife to deal with it. The second movers talked a good game, and actually had the highest estimate with the most volume based on the inventory that I gave them, which was fairly accurate considering we were pretty much packed. When they came, they re-estimated and double the initial estimate. We asked them to leave. Next was Velocity movers through International van Lines. They were able to come the next day, Jerson and his team, Felix, Fernando, Carlos, and Brian, did a great job of packing the truck, making sure that everything was well protected. They then delivered 3 days later, 800 miles away in Tennessee, and did a great job of unpacking. We only had 1 broken item, and it was something I had not packed well. They were all very professional and very nice and courteous, asking about various items to make sure they took care of them. Read More

My move cross country from Philadelphia was brokered out to Velocity Moving and Storage by International Van Lines (IVL) summer of 2022. In one word, the job they did was atrocious. I made the mistake of putting faith in a Forbes article praising IVL and ultimately went with the company based on that and the lower quote I was given compared to two other leading companies, which as it turns out was nothing more than a drastic under quote as I was hit with some big overages upon loading of the truck (an additional $2400), and it only got worse from there. Also of note, Justin and Karen at IVL were very responsive to the point of money being exchanged, then crickets. The movers from Velocity Moving didn't bring enough packing materials, which led to them having to come back the next morning (What? You have to reserve parking and elevator time weeks in advance for a move in a big city apartment.). Worse were the astonishing and blatant shortcuts taken in packing and loading. It was exhausting feeling like I had to keep an eye on all three guys all day to try to minimize the shortcuts being taken, and I ultimately couldn’t to any avail. So many things went into boxes loose and unwrapped, touching and piled on top of each other. Speed was clearly the priority and not protection of belongings or minimizing them being lost. Examples of cringe worthy things observed: wooden bar stools covered with nothing but packing paper, dining table inverted right onto filthy, gritty floor rather than onto a blanket for disassembly, road bicycle handlebar damaged, shelving unit that they didn’t break down came apart down the hallway and was left before dropping it into a large box after I inquired about it, and the components were never all recovered, multiple sets of screws and shelf pegs got separated from the furniture they belong to, removable glass from a bar cart and side table were left in place and just put on the truck, framed art unwrapped and all shoved in a box together, TV prepped by placing cardboard over the screen with the metal plug on the screen, an area rug was properly rolled so it was as short as possible, but then the rolled rug was folded in half and taped that way. Multiple chunks were taken out of the walls and there were scuff marks galore. This was just during packing. Regarding the overages, multiple pieces of furniture were not disassembled. I asked about disassembly and they replied, “I can break it down if you want.” You can guess how that ended (they didn't). In the end there wasn’t enough space on the 26 foot truck. My move cross country from Philadelphia was brokered out to Velocity Moving and Storage by International Van Lines (IVL) summer of 2022. In one word, the job they did was atrocious. Also of note, Justin and Karen at IVL were very responsive to the point of money being exchanged, then crickets. The movers from Velocity Moving didn't bring enough packing materials, which led to them having to come back the next morning (What? You have to reserve parking and elevator time weeks in advance for a move in a big city apartment.). Worse were the astonishing and blatant shortcuts taken in packing and loading. It was exhausting feeling like I had to keep an eye on all three guys all day to try to minimize the shortcuts being taken, and I ultimately couldn’t to any avail. So many things went into boxes loose and unwrapped, touching and piled on top of each other. Speed was clearly the priority and not protection of belongings or minimizing them being lost. Examples of cringe worthy things observed: wooden bar stools covered with nothing but packing paper, dining table inverted right onto filthy, gritty floor rather than onto a blanket for disassembly, road bicycle handlebar damaged, shelving unit that they didn’t break down came apart down the hallway and was left before dropping it into a large box after I inquired about it, and the components were never all recovered, multiple sets of screws and shelf pegs got separated from the furniture they belong to, removable glass from a bar cart and side table were left in place and just put on the truck, framed art unwrapped and all shoved in a box together, TV prepped by placing cardboard over the screen with the metal plug on the screen, an area rug was properly rolled so it was as short as possible, but then the rolled rug was folded in half and taped that way. So be prepared to stay one month in a hotel if you hire this company. They have no intention to make your move good. When I called customer service a guy would say things like "you changed your delivery date so many times", "6K is not much money, just wait 21 days". Absolutely disgusting customer service. Oliver just a very unpleasant person who literally would gaslight me and invent things like "you were not ready to receive furniture" and "you changed your date so many times that's why it's delayed". I booked a large interstate move with Velocity from New Jersey to Albuquerque. There were many unpleasant things I discovered about Velocity during my move. First of all, the movers are very pushy about tipping - and every little thing they do, they are always letting you know how they are going out of their way and you should 'make up when tipping' for it - to the point of making me uncomfortable. I understand that the movers expect to be tipped, but you don't have to remind me that every step of the way! Second, the movers don't bring with them any kind of packing supplies when they come. If you have anything that's not boxed up - well, good luck getting it transported! If you ask them, they will state an exorbitant, unrealistic amount for boxing it up. I had a few things that I didn't put in boxes and I ended up moving them myself in my car. Third, they ignore all your instructions. If you have any expensive or nice stuff, there's very little assurance it will be packed and delivered properly. I had a large plasma TV that I wanted crated (and I paid for it). When I saw the movers putting the TV in a flimsy picture crate ( they didn't even bring a TV box), I asked them and the movers explained away that the TV would be 'created at the warehouse'. Guess what? When they delivered the TV, it was still packed in that picture crate, upside down! It was a $3000 TV that had the corners chipped, the stand broken and the TV panel completely ruined. Several other pieces of furniture suffered damages as well. They handled my furniture in the worst possible way - with no care even when the package was clearly marked fragile. The only positive thing is that I had to reschedule the delivery a few times and they were pretty accommodating about it. But I would definitely not hire them ever again. Read More

That Sunday, June 5th, I get an email - no message - just the subject: Estimated Delivery Date: 06/12/2016 - 06/16/2016. OUTRAGED - I sent an email response the next day, Monday, June 6th ... That email never was responded to. Customer service and communication absolutely abysmal with this company. Finally, Thursday, June 9 - I receive a call from the driver. HE'S IN TEXAS. Trying to keep my cool - I don't take it out on this driver cause lord knows it probably isn't his fault. He advises he won't reach California until Monday or Tuesday. ACTUAL DELIVERY DATE - Tuesday, June 14th. **** Driver drove a large, rented UHAUL all the way across the country. They made stops in Louisiana, Texas, Arizona, and California (confirmed by the driver). They outsourced the move to another company. My gut tells me Velocity waiting until they had a few more moves along the way before actually sending out my things - which can explain the excessive time - all 200 cubic feet of my belongings - took to arrive. **** **** LOOK AT THE EXTERNAL DAMAGE TO THE BOXES. Thank goodness I wasn't moving large amounts of furniture or anything super valuable - these boxes were MANGLED upon arrival. They were pristine and brand new when picked up. Also, the drawer of my TV stand was absolutely ruined and the driver did everything he could to 'repair' it - see all the pics **** Only reason why they're getting 2 stars is because the three guys who moved me out of my NYC apartment, and the two guys who did the delivery here in LA were very nice, courteous, and hard working. That Sunday, June 5th, I get an email - no message - just the subject: Estimated Delivery Date: 06/12/2016 - 06/16/2016. OUTRAGED - I sent an email response the next day, Monday, June 6th ... That email never was responded to. Customer service and communication absolutely abysmal with this company. Finally, Thursday, June 9 - I receive a call from the driver. HE'S IN TEXAS. Trying to keep my cool - I don't take it out on this driver cause lord knows it probably isn't his fault. He advises he won't reach California until Monday or Tuesday. ACTUAL DELIVERY DATE - Tuesday, June 14th. **** Driver drove a large, rented UHAUL all the way across the country. They made stops in Louisiana, Texas, Arizona, and California (confirmed by the driver). They outsourced the move to another company. My gut tells me Velocity waiting until they had a few more moves along the way before actually sending out my things - which can explain the excessive time - all 200 cubic feet of my belongings - took to arrive. **** **** LOOK AT THE EXTERNAL DAMAGE TO THE BOXES. Thank goodness I wasn't moving large amounts of furniture or anything super valuable - these boxes were MANGLED upon arrival. They were pristine and brand new when picked up. Also, the drawer of my TV stand was absolutely ruined and the driver did everything he could to 'repair' it - see all the pics **** Only reason why they're getting 2 stars is because the three guys who moved me out of my NYC apartment, and the two guys who did the delivery here in LA were very nice, courteous, and hard working. Used for a cross-country move from NYC to LA. Not very many things - mostly boxes, queen mattress, bar table, and a few other things. Only 200 cubic feet. Long story short - this company is terrible at communication, will flat out ignore emails, gives unrealistic 'expected delivery times,' outsources long-distance moves, and will wait until they have moves going to stops en route. MOVE DATE: Weds May 25th QUOTED AVERAGE MOVE TIME TO LOS ANGELES: 7 - 9 days AGREED PREFERRED DELIVERY DATE: Thurs June 2nd ACTUAL DELIVERY DATE: Tues June 14th TOTAL TIME: 21 DAYS. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Prior to this - I had contacted the company on several occasions inquiring about how long it would take for my belongings to reach Los Angeles from NYC. They said their window was 'three to nineteen days total' - but, 'the average time is 7- 9 days to reach Los Angeles.' They also advised while I could not pick a specific date, I could place a 'preferred date' and they would 'do everything they could to hit the target date.' PREFERRED DELIVERY DATE: Thurs June 2nd or Fri June 3rd. I was advised this was feasible, as it was 8-9 days from the pick up. Awesome. Great. Expecting stuff on June 2nd / 3rd - perfect for my move in ... ... Then - RADIO SILENCE from Velocity. Did not hear anything from Velocity. Moving is stressful, heart wrenching and scary but all of those emotions disappear when using Velocity Movers. I have moved several times within NYC and am now using them to store than transport my items to the DC area and I am overjoyed with the service I get from them EVERY TIME!!!! I always feel very taken care of and treated with respect - and they do the same with my furniture. In fact, I had several glass tables that needed to be packed up and the movers went above and beyond to wrap everything carefully and show me what they were doing to ensure that all steps were taken to ensure nothing would break. I also want to mention that their in-office customer service was top-notch! They actually answer their phones and spend the necessary amount of time getting all the details of the move - and then call you a few days before to confirm everything.
