This review is for two VERY LARGE moves for St Austin Catholic Church and School. Unicorn Moving and Storage moved our school Pre-K through 8th grade from their temporary location into a brand new 6 floors building that was still an active worksite which required accommodations on Unicorn’s part. A week later they moved the parish staff from their temporary location into the new building. Unicorn works on an hourly basis instead of a weight basis. Their bid was right on target with other companies that we interviewed. As it turns out, the final invoice was below budget which allowed us to give their moving employees a nice bonus. We went with Unicorn for several reasons, all of which proved to be right on target. We were so impressed with their very well thought out strategy for loading the trucks. They were so flexible and able to pivot as things came up during the move-out as well as the move-in as it was an active construction site. Charles, the owner, Chili, their salesperson and Brent, the foreman of our moves met with us several times to walk our temporary campuses as well as our new building, so they knew exactly what to expect. In both moves we had to do some shuffling of furniture that was not being moved at that time as well as loading. They were very accommodating with that part of our move. The school move required six trucks. They loaded one day, stored our things over night and unloaded the next day. For the parish office move it was a one-day move-loaded and unloaded using two trucks. We had the best moving crew for both moves! This review is for two VERY LARGE moves for St Austin Catholic Church and School. Unicorn Moving and Storage moved our school Pre-K through 8th grade from their temporary location into a brand new 6 floors building that was still an active worksite which required accommodations on Unicorn’s part. Late on a Thursday evening, I visited a few friends who were working on moving out of their 1,000sqft space after being notified they had to vacate as the owner had chosen to sell the property. I realized very quickly, they were not ready. At all. As a professional organized and complex move manager, I knew they had a very difficult task ahead of them and while I was unable to provide one of my team, I offered to help line up a team. All my go to movers were booked solid. So now what. I had used Unicorn in the past and was pleased but it been been many years. I learned a good friend knew the new owner, so early Friday I called and left a message. Chile was quick to respond and quick with the quote. He was understanding of the situation and knew it was not going to be an easy undertaking. The team called and arrived as agreed to pack on day one. They realized I was not over exaggerating and sent more hands to help immediately. The operations manager called me to check in personally and discuss the next day’s moving plan. Day 2’s team showed up with even more support and an extra truck (just in case)(which we filled). They worked diligently with wonderful attitudes. They worked through the first of what I’m sure will be many more 100 degree days. Their pace never slowed and their packing was on point. Their attitudes never wavered. Their willingness to do whatever it took was exactly what we needed. He was responsive and offered a competitive quote. Then I had a question about an oversized item and Mark, the owner, reached out personally !!!! Then Kimberly called for confirmation the day before and shared the names of my team members assisting me with the move... and on the morning of the move within the window of the time provided - Sean and Artie reached out to share they were on the way! I recently used Unicorn to move out of a second floor apartment, storage and a move into a brand new home. The first half of this event was completely 5 star service. The guys that moved us out of the apartment were fantastic. The price matched what we were told and they tried to get our stuff packed into as few crates as possible. And they finished in exactly 2 hours (the minimum.) When they were scheduled to bring us our crates, however, they showed up several hours late and brought our stuff in a truck rather than the crates. I only wish here that they had given us a heads up that this was happening when we called to check that they were still coming. The guys that moved us into the house we're ok but they did damage the floor moving the washing machine and they overcharged us. I would still recommend Unicorn for what happened next. The day after our move, we received a phone call from the owner saying he was not happy with how we were charged and he refunded the overage. We told him about the floor and another piece of furniture that was damaged and he didn't hesitate to say he would have it fixed for us. Moving Day. Two words that can strike dread into the most stalwart, even the most prepared heart. Even though we'd been gradually moving for a month and all that was left was the furniture (and the few swallows of wine left in the fridge), I went to bed dreading this day and woke up dreading it. Woke up EARLY that is. Our movers were to be arriving between 8 and 9 a.m. so we got up at 6 to break down the beds and finalize everything (also to get tacos and donuts and Red Bull cause you just have to have energy for this day). Our guys showed up at 8:45. Two swell, happy fellas that immediately shook hands and introduced themselves and got to work. What should have been a stressful exhausting day became almost fun (and exhausting) as they sang along to the old soul music they played and made jokes and laughed and lifted things like glass encased curio cabinets like they were the couch pillows. And of course it rained. "That's no problem!" said Albert as they just wrapped everything up and put down cloths to try to keep everything dry and safe. We gave them Red Bull cause we're smart like that and next thing I knew, all of my stuff was in the new house, in the right spot and reassembled in THREE HOURS time. No walls marked, nothing scratched or broken (except two of my fingernails but I can hardly blame them for that). Huey and Albert really made the move a piece of cake, a truly mythical creature.
