I was very impressed. Scheduling it was very easy and convenient. I was able to show what needed to be moved using a video chat rather than waiting to have someone come over. Shleppers sent several emails to remind and confirm about the upcoming move, including advice about packing. The movers came on time and were well prepared with extra boxes, tape, and anything else needed. They were very efficient in wrapping furniture and moving boxes out. The man they had packing boxes into the truck must be a Tetris master because he managed to fit our entire apartment plus a storage unit into the truck, filling it right to the brim. Everything was solidly tied down so it wouldn't shift or break. When it came time to unload, they were again very efficient, very concerned about making sure everything went to the right place and reassembling all of the furniture. The lead mover also was very considerate about figuring out good configurations for furniture - they didn't just pile it into a corner, helter skelter. Full disclosure: the shipping TO storage was terrific but the shipping FROM storage to the new destination has been atrocious. Starting with a complete lack of transparency regarding shipping costs. I had wondered why/how their prices were so much better than other establish shipping companies & it’s because their contract is misleading. It doesn’t reference the 2nd fee to ship out that the customer would need to pay. It doesn’t indicate that this would be a separate job in the agreement. We explained to them that the move would be within the same area & there was no mention of charges at that point. As a family that hasn’t used a shipping company before why wouldn’t there be a discussion about fees? Our signed agreement mentions “Total Move” throughout & defined it as “the price of the move includes:(1) will provide the pick up and delivery of the items set forth in your item list. (No mentions of a second charge); (2) will provide the packing and unpacking services you selected.; (3) will disassemble and reassemble all of the furniture being moved unless otherwise requested.; (4) will set up your furniture in your desired locations.; (5) The price also includes all travel costs (including tolls, fuel, and parking tickets) as well as all labor and equipment.” (Shleppers later said “what if you moved across the country…you couldn’t have expected this to include that” – I told them that we expressed that we’d be local to our rep & could understand additional charges in a situation where the move was long distance.) On moving day, we weren’t even serviced by them. Only upon arrival did we find out that Shleppers wasn’t going to be directly handling the move. They had outsourced the move to Bridge Moving Company. I asked for them to wear masks. When I returned from an errand; none of the movers were wearing masks & found a mask on the ground along with rolls of tape in each room, huge piles of packing materials left in the front yard. The crew kept complaining about having to bring certain items up stairs (our home is 3 floors) & wanting access to an easier doorway which I explained might not be possible (we eventually were able to open additional doors but it was draining to keep repeating). They didn’t follow instructions on where many boxes & items belonged. Items were left in our backyard that we asked to be brought into our garage for safe keeping. While reassembling items, they found a broken pedal on my antique piano, missing suction pieces for two glass end tables & we’re still missing some canopy bars for a bed in the primary room(as far as we know b/c we haven’t unpacked everything). They rudely rushed to finish up the job & only managed to assemble one bed with another bed’s pieces & left the other 4 beds unassembled & left the floor scratched in the primary room. They called Dispatch & demanded the original foreman come & reassemble those beds because “pieces were missing”. When the original foreman came a week later, he fixed the incorrect bed setup & quickly put the remaining beds together with the pieces that he found taped to each of the beds. While not making any accusations, we questioned whether the disrespect we encountered was race related as there was a complete disregard for many of our service-related requests from the start. Following the move, I spoke with John in Dispatch who said he might be able to get someone to complete assembly on Monday. The crew they actually sent to do the moving had no idea what the term "white glove" meant and explained they normally move dorm rooms for students. The co-CEO, Raz Itzhaki, refused to speak with us and instructed his employees not to speak with us to aid us in processing our claims either. We were shocked. No apology; no assistance. SAVE YOUR MONEY!!! Shleppers is NOT the same company they used to be!!! When I hired Shleppers to move me last year during the height of the pandemic, I requested and paid for 2 Wardrobe boxes… What I received and had to use were 2 USED wardrobe boxes that had been left in the truck from a previous move This past August I paid Shleppers $2000 to deliver my things to me from their storage facility. I arranged for a morning move and they were expected to arrive between 9 and 10 am… they got to NJ at 1:30pm It went down hill from there… the first thing they brought to me from the truck was a headboard belonging to someone else. SAVE YOUR MONEY!!! Shleppers is NOT the same company they used to be!!! When I hired Shleppers to move me last year during the height of the pandemic, I requested and paid for 2 Wardrobe boxes… What I received and had to use were 2 USED wardrobe boxes that had been left in the truck from a previous move This past August I paid Shleppers $2000 to deliver my things to me from their storage facility. I arranged for a morning move and they were expected to arrive between 9 and 10 am… they got to NJ at 1:30pm It went down hill from there… the first thing they brought to me from the truck was a headboard belonging to someone else. I picked Shleppers because I'd had a good experience with them in 2013, but this was like a completely different company. Will never use them again and strongly advise against it. I paid extra because they offered a live video estimate using FaceTime, unlike other movers who would've required me to do my own detailed inventory, including counting all the boxes after they're packed, which is difficult if you need to book ahead of time and can't live out of a suitcase for 2 weeks. They showed up, started complaining that the estimate was inaccurate, and I agreed that they should call headquarters. Then, they started the move, half-loaded the truck, and declared that I would have to pay 25% more in order to finish the move! Of course I was over a barrel at this point – I thought I was paying their higher prices to avoid this situation! I highly recommend Schleppers Moving and Storage for your next move. Beginning with my initial contact with the customer service representative who was friendly and accommodating, I scheduled a walk through. Schleppers estimator used a tablet not paper and pencil on an old form which the others had done. I was impressed with the technology he used as we walked through the house. Making changes to what was going/not going was very easy using an electronic form. I needed storage because our new house would not be ready for another 6 to 8 weeks. Schleppers estimate was lower than the other 3 estimates. They do not use 3rd party carriers and every aspect of the moving and storage is handled by the them and only them. Moving day the crew showed up on time with all the right packing equipment, enough truck space and worked quickly. No hidden fees or costs with Schleppers! Be warned: I used Shleppers to move over summer, and they damaged 1/3 of my items, covered in mold from only 2 months in their storage. My couch sectional, every pair of high heels I owned (dozens of designer brands, curated over two decades,) every children’s book we owned, family heirlooms— it was thousands of dollars worth of damage. I also paid full price for 2 moves (into and out of storage,) when 1/3 of the items were damaged in the process. When movers arrived Day 1, in was June of the first covid wave in Brooklyn. They told me they needed to charge me double the amount of the quoted move. (I had several other estimates from moving companies, as well as one who came and saw the goods beforehand in person, so I know this was not “market rate" but had no other choice since I had to move that day.) Ten weeks later, my items were delivered to my new home covered in toxic mold, when I had a 3 year old at home. Not to mention the ruin of the items, it was also a total health hazard. The drivers wanted to assure me it was not their fault, and that was the damage when they picked it up from Shlepper’s storage. I had to then dispose of and pay additional funds for the now toxic items to be removed from property by my waste removal company. It was emotionally and physically stressful on that day and beyond. Not to mention devastating to have lost so many items close to me that I had been gathering for years, including gifts from family members that have passed. I also then had to spend hours gathering information for the claim forms for their system that is entirely automated online. It kept kicking me off because there was so much to input. The entire process took months and hours and hours. Only to be offered a fraction of a settlement that would not even cover the cost of a new couch. When I went to my credit card company to put a payment hold on their services— all of which was already in claims under *their system,* I received a letter threatening my non-payment and asking me to pay they $500 attorney fees for their sending of the letter. You don’t see negative reviews of Shleppers online because in their settlements, you have to sign a form saying you are not allowed to post about them online. They were miraculously found on the truck, which had allegedly been emptied and inspected by him right after the move). 2. EXTENSIVE DAMAGES: The crew was incredibly reckless. They broke the leg of a $6000 sofa. Shleppers did send a carpenter to repair the leg, which entailed super-gluing and drilling screws into it. It’s unclear how long this peg leg will hold up. The crew carelessly moved an armoire and dropped it on a custom built desk, creating large divots in the wood. They removed wooden knobs from a credenza and lost them. They did not properly pack a Design Within Reach floor lamp (neither removing the lamp shade nor the lightbulbs!) before transporting it. I watched that lamp tumble onto Riverside Drive! Another vintage 1950s lamp shade that was never removed from the lamp or packed at all, is now it is completely bent and lopsided. 3. IRRESPONSIBLE PACKING: Extremely valuable glass and bone china items were put into boxes with no wrapping or protection whatsoever. Two vintage glass globe lights were tossed in a box on top of a printer and had another lamp and a small end table placed on top of them with no protection whatsoever! Even though I reiterated multiple times that all these items were very fragile, they were not even wrapped in paper or bubble wrap. 4. After getting quotes and reading reviews from many different companies we were horrified at the level of dishonesty and poor services in this industry. However, when we found Shleppers and read their reviews, we felt a lot more comfortable. After speaking with their sales rep, who seemed very honest and straight forward, our comfort level went up a bit further. When we received their quote we were shocked that their prices were almost $1000 lower than some of the companies who had terrible reputations! We had to reread the reviews On shleppers to make sure they were real! Anyone that we reached out to at the company with questions at any point during the process responded to us within a few hours. The process was explained very clearly to us, our questions were answered patiently. We very much liked the fact that the pricing was explained very clearly, including outlining which factors would make the price go up, and tips on how to keep the price as low as possible. We were also told exactly on which dates our credit card would be charged, and for how much. Everything was above board, and very clear. The online registration outlined everything that was discussed again, and ensured that we understood and agreed to the fine print so we wouldn’t have any surprises at the end. On the day before the move, our movers called and confirmed the time and location, and on the day of the move, they showed up nice and early. Mike and Chris did a fabulous job carrying all our boxes down 3 flights of stairs onto the truck, and were careful with our fragile items. They took the time to wrap our furniture carefully- it was heartwarming to watch them show our belongings so much care. Every single item that left our apartment was tagged with a big blue sticker that had my name, origin, destination and a barcode on it. The barcodes were scanned when the item was placed on the truck, and again every time they were moved. Our apartment was empty within a few hours of the movers showing up- we were surprised by how quickly they worked. The guys were pleasant, professional and focused- we were really impressed with them. We said goodbye to Chris and Mike and our belongings before lunch, and by early afternoon, we received a call confirming that all our belongings had arrived in their warehouse (as had been explained to us in advance). We received constant updates regarding our belongings over the next couple of weeks (ie when they were loaded onto the truck that would be bringing them to the west coast, and again with updates Re the estimated date of arrival). This is my second time using Shleppers. The first time was a local city move in 2014 and most recently, an out-of-state move. They are extremely helpful and coordinated every part of my move. I didn’t feel rushed when I spoke on the phone with my moving consultant running through the inventory of my apartment, she was very helpful and kind, reminded me of things I may have missed. The best part: the quote was hundreds of dollars below other companies. A few days leading up to my move I received a friendly phone call to confirm final details of my out-of-state move. The morning of my move I received a call from the foreman (right on time) that they were downstairs and ready to go! He estimated it would take about 3 hours to pack up my apartment and move everything out – and it only took about 2 hours! They arrived at my house, and the first thing they did was complain about the number of boxes I had. “We thought it was nine boxes,” they said… for a 4br house that I’d lived in for 40 years. After their lunch break at 1:30 they didn’t arrive at the new location until 4:30! They said it was because they didn't realize they couldn't take the truck on the NJ Turnpike. Ummm... what? Is this your first time moving? First time driving a truck? First time in the state of New Jersey? Even if I could accept such ignorance as a valid excuse, taking the local roads shouldn't add an extra 90 minutes. When they couldn't fit our armoire into the elevator they said there was nothing that could be done about it, instead suggesting I pay $120/month for them to keep it in storage. haha! My sons had already tipped them $150 AND offered to help them carry it up the two flights of stairs (for me), but they declined. One of them requested twice as much gratuity for such a task, citing "my back doesn't come cheap." Yeah, I understand, but you figured when you took this job that you’d occasionally have to lift really heavy things, right? His partner said he would have tried it if I hadn’t “disrespected” him by telling their boss that they’d arrived late from lunch. What?! I’ve worked in many customer service jobs over the years and have never taken the liberty to decline finishing a job because I felt a customer was disrespectful. In the end, because of the aforementioned considerations they determined that trying to take the armoire up was not worth it. It was too much. These young, strong MOVERS were too tired. They left the armoire in front of the elevator in the lobby as if they’d been personal friends doing me a favor and we’d had a falling out with them mid-move – as if they weren’t being compensated – as if this wasn’t America or New Jersey, where even non-movers know you cannot take commercial trucks onto the turnpike. As the large piece of furniture constituted a fire code violation I had to get it removed at my own expense. I tried calling Schleppers’ office for help, and got only a rude receptionist who claimed: “They took your armoire to the destination.” I’m not sure if Schleppers moves a lot of homeless people, but my agreed upon destination was actually INSIDE the apartment. When we complained, they shamelessly offered us $400 for our fully scratched dinner table, lost items, broken lamps, broken kitchen wears, and the worst of all the horrible nightmare they created for us. I have moved several times and Shleppers is by far the worst movers I have ever used. They managed to cause more damage than the cost of the move itself! Their sales team “forgets” to list all your property in the estimate so your quote appears to be competitive, their customer service sucks, and their follow up is even worse After the move was completed, I thought it was strange that the movers were diligent to collect all the blankets they used to pack my furniture except one - A cabinet they place deep in a corner so it would be one of the last things we saw. Sure enough, when I got to it, it made sense - THE BLANKET WAS LEFT TO COVER THE HOLE THEY PUT IN THE CABINET DOOR. Then, as I unpacked my boxes, I started to realize the most damaged boxes were strategically placed at the bottom of the stacks of boxes, with the damage facing the wall. In addition to destroying a cabinet door, they broke several serving dishes, cups glasses. That wasn't the worst part - They managed to drop a box with a Bose Subwoofer thus rendering the $1300 stereo system useless. The amp and power for the entire system is built into the subwoofer! SAVE YOURSELF THE HEADACHE AND USE FLAT RATE MOVERS. I’ve used them multiple times and have never had a issue. Shame on me for choosing the lowest quote.
