I really wanted to like and give a positive recommendation for Ruff and Ready Moving. Unfortunately, I DO NOT RECOMMEND RUFF AND READY to move your belongings. My initial consult was great. They were on time for the day of the move. The move took way longer than initially quoted and cost us an extra $800! We had a handful of things damaged. We decided to only claim our very expensive dinning room chair that was only 1 year old. When submitting my claim for a broken dining room chair the office was so disorganized. It took months to get a resolution. I submitted the claim 3x! People in the office kept loosing the paperwork. The instructions on the claim paper stated to fax in the documents. Weeks go by, I call to get an update and they said the fax associated to the number on the claim form isn’t anywhere in the office and they don’t know where it goes. So not only is my personal formation floating around somewhere, I had to redo and submit the documents several times. Different people from the office kept asking for photos of the damaged chair. I sent the photos on 3 different occasions but no surprise they didn’t have record of them. I am so disappointed in this company. My very expensive chair was broke by your workers and my reimbursement was $12!!!! SERIOUSLY!!! Your company wasted my time!!! I had to provide proof of purchase and cost of damaged items, a page long application with specific details, photos of the damaged chair and send all this multiple times via fax, email and multiple follow up phone calls. All this for a lousy $12! You can keep your $12 dollars and the fact my family and anyone we know will not be using you! This is the most fraudulent moving company I have ever dealt with. I am a real estate agent and helped one of my clients as she needed to be out of town for the delivery of her items. This is a breakdown of the nonsense that went on. They didn’t bring enough workers or trucks for my clients move… They lost many of my clients items. How are they lost? Why were some of her things taken out of the trucks? In a 5 mile move across Temecula… They couldn’t stick to one timeline that they gave.. it gets better His estimator Craig quoted my client $1900 for her move and then when they asked to be paid gave me a bill for $4100… don’t forget they moved her 5 miles… and she didn’t add any extra items. Everything was the same as the day the estimator came to her house. The owner John Ruff had zero accountability for the numerous mistakes his company made and I’ve since been told by his own employees that they regularly see/hear that the estimates given are low and then they extort the clients for more money when they come to deliver their household goods. They have you over a barrel. What are you going to say no I don’t want my personal things… This is John Ruff’s normal business practice… the story is going to get better!! I paid their lead worker Chase $2800 in cash that my client left to pay (the $1900 quote she received to move her 5 miles). The owner John Ruff informed me if he didn’t get the remaining balance that he wouldn’t unload any of my clients things, he would take them back to his storage and she would then get charged a daily storage fee until she paid his extortion bill!! I start going through the bill. He added $795 as a trash out fee. His own workers even knew they didn’t do a trash out.. amazingly he took that off the bill. Gee thanks… the remaining balance was $508. Which I called Ruff N Ready and stated I would put on my CC. I ok’d a charge of $508 only. Imagine my surprise to see that this company charged me $2800 as well… I will be disputing this charge and I know I’ll get my money back but WOW!!! This company is horrific in their business practices. I have pics of the cash I gave to their lead mover, the other movers that day will also verify I have the $2800 in cash and we have a receipt stating I paid him $2800 in cash… please don’t use this company!!! Maybe I'm the outlier (I find myself typing this entirely too much these days in reviews) but I requested a quote to move almost a week ago: No Response. Sent an email two days ago: No Response. Every time I try to get someone on the phone: No response. So they must not be in business. Or they are actively disregarding my wife and I trying to contact them. All I was trying to find was a quote to help me move my family. As a disabled Veteran sometimes moving my entire family with my disabled veteran friends we can't really complete the task always due to injury. Thank you for absolutely nothing. I guess you must be on hiatus from doing business, because if not I'd suggest looking for someone else to help with you loving needs. I would no trust this company at all. Moving is very stressful and as a single woman, I was clear on my situation. I was quoted 9 hours and 3 men to assist with some packing, disassembling furniture and TVs and packing those. They had an estimator come out as well to go over each item to give an "accurate" quote. The estimator I assume works off commission. Well once the movers were here, I tried to thoroughly communicate everything but I still had to stop them from sending stuff to the wrong place on many occasions and no wonder stuff got lost and packed up. My dresser got packed and stuffed in the middle of my storage with my socks and underwear still in it. Yes they knew I was still working around that area. I also asked what happened to my HDMI cords and was told they were put in a box when I needed them with me. They couldn't tell me which box in order to retrieve it which is now also lost in permanent storage packed full. This was a stressful experience to say the least but to add to it, it ended up taking 13 1/2 hours. I had to make special arrangements with the owner of the storage facility to go past gate hours finishing up close to 10pm. The lunch break should have been an hour including drive time between the first and second stop but it ended up being an hour and 45 minutes. Many "5 minute" smoke breaks that were really more like 15 minutes. Many times I saw one guy standing around watching the other guys. Maybe he was directing I don't know, however I felt efficiency needs much improvement as well as solid communication. I can't be 3 places at once so I felt they could have been more hands on with communicating and helping me which is what I thought I was paying for. Then I'm being told it's my fault and it's a 2 day job by the guy who gets paid hourly and I'm being charged hourly. Makes sense. I don't feel good about it. Update and response: it is pretty pathetic that the movers are attempting to blame me for their incompetence. I was clear when the job was quoted what needed to be done including removing TVs and packing. I was clear I needed full service movers, not half ass movers. It's ok, it's totally my fault again for being taken advantage of by douche bag men who think their shit don't stink. This company is a joke. This is the most dishonest company I have ever dealt with.. We originally paid $1500 to move our stuff to their storage unit and they were supposed to move it back in after a month. The movers caused hundreds of dollars of damage to our home and our belongings. We called the office immediately while the guys were still at our home and informed them of the damaged items. They said they couldn't do anything unless we paid in full. There was chunks out of our drywall by our front door, scratches in our new flooring, my dishwasher and oven were both dented, the blankets our items were wrapped in had holes in them which caused scratching on most of my large furniture, and they even broke a bed post (see pictures). John Ruff got on the phone and said if we dont pay the remaining $600 he's taking us to court. My husband went to court and brought all the pictures of the damage and John pointed out that they conveniently mark EVERY item on the inventory list as damaged with a code (scratches, dents) before they take it. So therefore he isn't responsible for ANY damage that happens during the move, but it has our signature so there is nothing we can do. I would never recommend this company to anyone! Made an appointment for an in-home free estimate 4 days ago (Feb. 4th) for an appointment this morning at 10am. An hour and a half waiting for this guy to show up, we call the company. Customer service said Paul will call within a couple minutes. Paul called us asking if we received his text message THIS MORNING, we told him we never did he then asked if we lived in an apt and for us to tell him a list of our furniture without telling he wouldn't make it to our home. He then says he didn't want to come because our home was far (about 60 miles) and then told us for our 2 bedroom place our estimate is $6500-7500. After that call, I spoke with Amanda, the manager and she said if it's over 50miles they do a phone estimate which we were not informed. We were upset because they had 4 days to know ahead of time we weren't local (located near Buena Park) and had to leave our appointment early for our daughter to make it in time for our appointment with Paul. When we called Ruff and Ready for our moving needs, we met with a gentleman that happened to be the father of the owner of this company. We were lead to believe that they took the "old fashion" way of working with people! We were told how they take pride in their work and put the customers needs first! What we weren't told is that the boxes that were packed and sealed by us would arrive damaged, opened and resealed! We weren't told that items would be missing! Things were removed from boxes that were sealed and placed in other boxes that were opened for some reason. Our king size mattress left our house in a protective bag but arrived out of the bag being used to protect items inside the moving van! The mattress arrived dirty! The strings that hold the weights to my grandfather clock are broke. My leather wrapped trunk was damaged! My husband's Harley Davidson seat is still back in California and hasn't been returned to us! But....yet, they are asking for the $450 fuel charge they forgot to add!!! They are more worried about their wants and needs and haven't shown us any remorse for everything that has happened to us! Now to top it all off, I just discovered that my father's (who passed away two years ago) western hat that was an icon of his, is missing!! This is something that has hung in my house since I lost my dad! It is a very sentimental priceless possession!! My husband and I have been in our own business for 36 years and we have always done the right thing for our customers if they weren't satisfied!
