I heard old town van lines they subcontract into a pair of men who not only took my furniture but held it overnight, then brought it. The next day made me pay them $400 so they didn’t charge me for bulk and then when they came to the new apartment to charge me another 200 or they wouldn’t. They refused to bring my stuff up the stairs even though I paid them to $400 on top of my contact the day before now and they left all my stuff in the grass and made me move all my stuff downstairs upstairs, including setting up my own appliances which I paid for it now no one will respond. No one picked up the phone and they say it’s not their problem when I do. DO NOT HIRE OR USE THEM RUDE THEIVES! Read More

We hired Old Town to move our custom furniture from Texas to New Mexico. They charged us extra for crating fees, etc. The guys that arrived to pack the items seemed great. They assured us they would be blanketing, crating and keeping everything safe. They upcharged us several times for various special services (like crating). What happened in reality is that they took our stuff to an un-climate controlled storage bin and threw it in. Then they hired another company, with a worn-out 18-wheeler and Russian driver (not kidding) who spoke little English, to actually deliver the items. The simply threw our antique and collectible furnishings into the back of the 18-wheeler and took off. When our furniture arrived, legs were broken off, there were large gauges in the wood, and it was not good. This was Bianchini and similar pieces, which again, we paid extra for their white glove treatment. Old Town requires payment in either cash, or by Zelle. Now I know its to avoid charge-backs from credit cards, or damage claims being placed through cardholder agreements. They guys that delivered the stuff apologized profusely, stating that they say things like this all the time. They were day laborers that Old Town "hired" to unload the truck. From what I can tell, these guys promise a lot, but then broker your load to other less reputable carriers, and use whoever they can find cheaply to unload. These are the Bad Guys You Read About!!
We were making a move of 60 miles in a couple of months and have a local mover I use for work with an outstanding reputation. My wife said she would call and make the arrangements for the pack and move: This company out of Florida told her they were familiar with my company (they were not) and offered her a couple of different discounts to acknowledge it. She paid the deposit and a week later I noted that this company was “Old Town Van Lines”, not “Moving and Storage”. Since we had partial paid, and they seemed very professional and detailed, we decided to see it through. What a huge mistake. After detailing with them every piece of furniture and item to be moved (with measurements where required), explaining the layout of both houses including number of stairs, etc. and estimating the number of required boxes for cabinet items and clothing we awaited our moving day. Saturday morning, we got a call from the movers, “be there at 4:00”. Saturday came and went no call, Sunday morning we called and were told he’d be there in a couple of hours. Seven hours later they arrive (two of them) and start the extortion. Very long story short they wanted 3x more than what we were told… $8000 in cash or they wouldn’t start, and we should be grateful because they were giving us a huge discount. It was Sunday (what a coincidence) so of course the call to our rep went unanswered. We told him it was Sunday; this is all the money we could get (1/4 of what he wanted). He threatened to walk away so we said fine, see ya! Well, what a surprise when he decided to stay. They didn’t bring boxes, though it was a pack and move so we had to give them $100 for boxes which they went and got... and believe it or not this is when the nightmare started! There was not one piece of furniture moved that wasn’t damaged. They packed by throwing everything, no wrapping, no protection in large moving boxes, literally (see the attached picture of one of the kitchen boxes, they all look the same and I’ve got plenty of pictures). They took a closet door of its hinges and shattered it, they kept hiding things throughout the house so they wouldn’t have to move them. One of their initial “issues” was that we had more than a truck full (large box truck) of stuff. Absolutely not. My wife and I have moved 19 times together and moved ourselves into this house with a rental truck (to think this was our attempt to spoil ourselves) What they didn’t tell us was that the truck was already half full with another move. Every time one of us went out to the truck they tried to shut the loading door so we wouldn’t see (but we did). So: thousands of dollars over quote, all furniture damaged, China glass and silver shattered and dented, we had to make three trips in my pickup back to the house to get the things they left behind, and we will most certainly lose the deposit on the house because of all the damage. Definitely should consider renaming to Three Stooges Moving, two onsite and one in FL. We’re contemplating our next action, but you’ve been warned.
FOLLOW UP: Old Town Van Lines would not return our calls, however they inadvertently answered the phone one time. The entire situation was explained and submitted in writing. They pretended to be surprised and outraged, but as I expected they never got back to us, would not answer our calls again and offered no solution or explanation. I was willing to adjust or even remove this review if they took a positive step to make things right, or even attempt to make things right.
