I am so disappointed to have to write this review. I actually hired NYC Great Movers twice in the year 2020, and both times they were absolutely on top of everything: courteous, professional, organized, prepared and efficient. And affordable. I recommended them to at least two other friends who had fantastic experiences. Fast-forward two years later, and I had the exact opposite experience. First, the movers showed up 10 days early. Granted, my move date had changed from the 1st of the month to the 10th, so I could understand how the mix-up could occur. But when the movers relentlessly rang my and my neighbors' doorbells at 8am on a Saturday until I opened the door, that should have been my first clue that the company had deteriorated in its operations. I scheduled a move from a 2 BDR apartment with a lot of boxes and furniture. The company sent two guys, which was not enough. When, on the 10th, they returned, one of the guys told me that I needed to stand outside and watch their moving truck, which was double-parked illegally. My move was actually from the 2nd floor to the basement, so I had no idea why they even brought the truck. All that information had been conveyed well ahead of time. Nonetheless, I wanted to be helpful, so I obliged and sat outside and watched their truck while the guys moved my stuff from the second floor to the basement for temporary storage. I wasn't worried about not being able to supervise them on-site, since my last moves in 2020 were at the height of the pandemic, when it felt safer to remain outside, and both times NYC Great Movers did such a superb job. Additionally, my landlords were present in the first floor of the building and had expressed to the movers several times that they were available to troubleshoot or consult if needed. At one point, one of the movers came outside and told me that there was one large table that was not going to fit down the narrow stairwell to the basement. He said that ramming it though would damage the walls. So I followed him inside, where, after a brief consultation with my landlords, we determined that the movers could just leave the table in a room on the first floor. Problem averted, right? So imagine my surprise when, after tipping generously, my landlords notified me an hour later that a tremendous amount of damage had been done to the walls and ceiling of the stairway. I texted the mover who had been coordinating the operation. The mover was immediately defensive when I told him that he should have told me about the damage that he caused, instead of just taking off. The following day, I followed up with the company. I told Saad, who seemed to be the manager, that I shouldn't have had to watch the double-parked truck in the cold, that the movers clearly did wrong to not ask either me or the landlords how to proceed if it seemed like something wouldn't fit. I wanted the company to send out someone to fix the damage. The man with whom I spoke was very gracious and conciliatory, but he strung me along for weeks. When my landlords asked their contractor for an estimate for repairing the damages, it came to $400. I am not the kind of person to be obnoxious to workers or to call repeatedly and follow up multiple times. I'm also very busy. NYC Great Movers did not return my texts or emails. When I finally made the time to call again, many days later, the man I spoke to gave me a link to a scammy fake arbitration company with a typo-ridden website. Eventually, when I told him I would have no choice but to write an honest review about the experience, I was offered $100. That's less than the tip I gave. So, here is the review. I highly recommend this company! I used them in December of 2020 and couldn't have been more pleased with the service. I moved on the first of the month which is obviously the busiest day of the month for a moving company. My movers were running a little behind schedule that day, but called me to keep me posted on their progress. They were extremely professional and apologetic. When they did arrive to my apartment, the three movers worked ESPECIALLY hard to get everything done in a timely manner . I couldn't believe how quickly they worked! They were also very careful with my possessions and even wrapped things I didn't properly wrap myself. On top of that, they were incredibly friendly and polite. The movers also did a great job of getting my furniture up my new three story walkup. I live in a building with a NARROW stairwell, and despite the challenge, the men were able to complete the job without complaint. I have actually noticed some of my neighbors' movers having a much bigger issue on the stairs, which is what prompted me to write this review lol. I feel bad that I don't remember the names of the three gentlemen who helped me, because they did such a great job and I'd like to give them recognition.
