Today, the team of four arrived exactly at the time they said they would, and they moved everything into the large truck with efficiency and attention to detail, and honestly helped out with every special request we made. I will never move with any other company ever again! Northstar we love you and your amazing teams. We first moved with Northstar in early 2019. Upon arrival Andy and his team quickly realized things would be accomplished quicker by adding another mover - and I'm so glad we did! They got our 2 bed 2 bath apartment packed up quickly and moved us up to our house in Oxnard. They gave our 1 year old daughter a nickname and were sensitive to her issue with the sound of packing tape. They were great with our two anxious pups too. Second time we moved was a bit more complex but Northstar was happy to accommodate us and reassured me everything would be smooth. Pedro and his team arrived on time and ready to work! They got our 3 bed 3 bath house + Peloton packed up and moved us into Northstar's storage until our new home in San Diego was ready for move in. When we had a confirmed move in date I called Northstar and Assi helped me plan a date for delivery of our things. He was a wealth of knowledge and answered all my questions. On delivery day they arrived earlier than expected, Abel and his team unpacked quickly and got the big things moved in with no issue. I was very hesitant to use movers because I never had before. I was referred by a friend to look at Northstar. When I called they provided me a ton of information over the phone and immediately gave me peace of mind. I received a confirmation email with detailed description of what they would do within an hour of hanging up. On the day of the move Teddy called me and advised me he was 30 minutes away, which I really appreciated. Upon arrival Teddy and his crew (Alexis and Abel) were quick, efficient, and did a clean job. They were very detailed and listened closely as I explained where I wanted each item. Teddy and his team also worked so quickly to disassemble and reassemble all of my furniture I was shocked! Just used this moving company today for the first time!!! SO HAPPY with how it turned out and would highly recommend!!! Thankfully, move was stress free. I had Roberts team (2 people: Robert & Jose) helping me today and they were quick, friendly and worked hard (especially considering that my furniture was HUGE and they took the stairs 50 million times like champs). I felt so bad but they handled it professionally. They were sooo quick, we finished within our 2 hour time limit that we tried to set ourselves (we're on a budget unfortunately). I didn't use any wrapping or packaging and my stuff arrived at my new apartment just fine! I have a HUGE leather couch and a huge leather headboard and i was super surprised that nothing was damaged. Robert and Jose carefully moved everything through the small doors and hallways, which I was so grateful for! They were careful with driving too! I drove infront of them because my new apartment is gated (so i can let them in) and i noticed they were driving slow which was AMAZING!!! Nobody wants movers that drive crazy so I was super glad they seemed to care about our stuff. The booking process was super easy! I requested a quote from yelp and they were super quick to respond and call me about prices. They didn't ask for a deposit and said that the minimum was 2 hours which is PERFECT because I was moving a studio within a very close distance. EVERY other place that I called had a 3 hour minimum. I was able to pay cash in person and was told that it was Not an extra fee for cards (i noticed other moving companies charged like $5-$20 extra for cards! Five stars all around!!! We were so impressed by NorthStar Moving Corporation. Three movers showed up to our place in DTLA with a huge truck, packed and moved all of our furniture. It was our first time using movers and our movers were so professional, friendly and thorough! They came with all the necessary materials, wrapped everything really nicely (none of our furniture got damaged) and delivered everything at our house. My husband and I hate moving (who likes it to be honest) but our movers made our experience so easy! Communication was very easy throughout the whole process - they had called me to let me know they were on their way to our place and the timing ended up being perfect. I also want to thank the owner of the company who kindly gave me a phone call earlier this week to accommodate our move and even offer us a discount due to a miscommunication. Really appreciated it!! As a renter, I have moved a lot. Moving is a pain. Make it less a pain and go with NorthStar. Here's why your pain remedy is NorthStar. During a move, so many things can go wrong--and for my last move, it seemed everything did. A star guided me to Wendy at NorthStar through those darkest days of moving. NorthStar went so far beyond what anyone could anticipate, I am left in shock. Five gold stars any day of the week. Miscommunication had taken place, and the building that I was moving into had given away the elevator timeslot. I told NorthStar this, and we rescheduled for the following day to move my items into the new building. NorthStar would hold my items overnight. Day of the move. I had asked how long it would take to move a 1 bedroom and was told about 4 hours-5 hours. I asked if we could switch my appointment with NorthStar to the afternoon, since I had to work in the morning. When the movers showed up, we only had a few hours to move everything out of a very large 1400-sq-ft 1 bedroom. I had everything packed, except a few unboxed items. We worked at high speed until the building staff said that if we continued, I could receive a fine of over $1,000. NorthStar and I decided to stop. We had moved most of my items out, but we had 8 biggest need-an-elevator items left: couch, lamp, bookshelf, bar stools, bed, chair, and 2 TVs. While the great Northstar crew were confident that we would figure it out, I felt disheartened and discouraged. Wasting money is why it was disheartening. Each time the elevator is reserved/used at my old building it is $250, but a whopping $500 at the new building. Having to do a second move meant $750 more in elevator fees alone. Now I'd also have to pay for a full second day of movers coming and loading, driving, and unloading the truck. I estimated all that would cost at least an additional $1,400 even though it is only 15 miles from downtown Los Angeles to Marina Del Rey. A second day meant an extra $1,400 expenses. Gets better. The mattress had gone in the truck, but not the frame of the bed. I didn't have a bed so I tried to book a hotel, but it was 11pm, so late that nothing was available. So couch at my old place it was. Literally, everything went wrong. Well I did have couch. The Wendy Lady The next day, Wendy called me and asked me about the move and heard about all the issues. She came in eager to solve problems, and that she did. She never tired, and her energy kept me going just when I was ready to give up. I talked to the staff at the building I was moving from and to, and they said that the soonest I could have the elevator again was Monday. Scheduling problem: Saturday, my current apartment had to be clear because a crew was coming to sand and finish the unit's wall-to-wall hardwood floor. Sunday, the cleaning crew would arrive. Monday, I had to give it back to the landlord. With all the items left, how could all that get done? Wendy took on the challenge and went for it. At first, NorthStar didn't have a crew available so I had booked another company, but Wendy was persistent. She said that if Northstar started something, they were going to get the job done. She found another crew, and I was able to get the elevator at my old place. Wendy and her Northstar crew did get it done. They got the items out of the unit in time for all the work to take place. They offered to waive fees for driving and provide free storage. They really went so far and beyond what even your parents would do it is crazy. The workers stayed late and drove my stuff to a storage unit that I had rented in Venice to store the items until the other elevator became available. They never stopped working. It was incredible. Furniture piece after furniture piece, they moved. More companies need to be like NorthStar. Not just get the job done. But take customer service to such an extreme that it is at a level where the customer is wondering what just happened. Who are these people? Companies don't do things like this. But Wendy at NorthStar did. If you are looking for a moving company whom you can depend on and can hold accountable, NorthStar are your movers. Huge thanks and shout out to Jason, Alonzo & Jon for helping us move out of our DTLA loft to our new home in San Gabriel. These guys are speedy, professional, courteous, and efficient. It took 5 hours (10:30am-3:30pm) from door to door, start to finish. We had packed 95% of our belongings and they helped shrink wrap, disassemble, blanket wrap and pack the rest. We provided the guys w coffee, donuts for breakfast and pizza for lunch - because it only makes sense to feed the people who are helping you move your life to another area of LA, which isn't an easy task. Please also remember to tip these guys because it is back breaking work - we gave cash. They do wear back braces, which I thought was great! It shows that North Star cares about the safety of their employees. North Star is the only company I found that does a "Not to Exceed" estimate and contract, which is why I chose them. I knew that at the end of the day, I would not be paying more than what was estimated. Gil came to do the walk through estimate a few weeks prior to our moving day and we were happy knowing that we had the NTE in place. The movers were supposed to deliver by no later than Thursday, 8/24/17; on Wednesday, 8/23/17 after hearing nothing, I contacted NorthStar to find out what time on 8/24/17 the movers would arrive. I was told at that time that the movers were running behind and they may not arrive until after Friday, 8/25/17 but that I would get a call daily with an update. On 8/24/17 I did not get a call, so on 8/25/17 I called NorthStar again. At that time I was told that the movers would not arrive until early the following week. On Monday, 8/28/17 I received a call from the mover telling me he was on his way and would be arriving the morning of Tuesday, 8/29/17. Upon arrival, the first thing the mover asked for was payment. Only two movers were there to unload. I had the AT&T repair arrive at the same time, so after giving the movers payment, they began unloading as I dealt with AT&T. I noticed that several boxes being brought in were destroyed. I tried to make the mover aware of the issues, but he’s English wasn’t very good and he didn’t seem to understand my concern, and the other mover was on his phone; so, I contacted NorthStar’s main number and told them I would definitely have damages to report. I was told to call them back once everything was unloaded and they would direct me on how to handle the claim for damages. The one mover was not careful at all and kept hitting my walls (my house is a brand new custom-built home) and scuffing the stairwell. The second mover was friendly and competent and seemed concerned when I pointed out a few of the issues that I notice immediately and said that I would need to notify the main office. As they finished the unloading, one mover showed me that parts were missing/broken on the refrigerator door and that he could not reinstall it (NorthStar on the California end had taken the doors off of the refrigerator and packed it). As the movers were getting ready to leave, the one asked/told me to fill out a survey and then stood over me watching how I would rate them; I was completely uncomfortable and felt obligated to give a good review. Once the movers left, I went to look at the refrigerator (which is now taking up substantial space in my garage) and when I turned the door around I found a huge gouge in the interior of the door. The mover never even indicated that there was any damage other than the missing/broken hinge, and he had left the door against the wall with the interior not showing. There are also several small dings in the stainless steel and plastic portions of the refrigerator. Later that night when I went to look at other items, I found many broken/destroyed/damaged. The entire electronics unit of the elliptical machine had been ripped out and place in the mounting like there was nothing wrong with it. My neighbor stopped by to ask how things went and said that when the movers first opened the moving van he had looked in and that my boxes and containers were completely crushed; he said he knew there had to be substantial damage. In summary, this entire moving experience has been horrendous: 1. unacceptable delay in delivery of household goods with no notice 2. discovery of significant damage upon delivery of goods (rending many items a total loss) 3. unloading damage to a newly built custom home 4. insufficient labor for delivery and unloading 5. unprofessional delivery personnel (i.e. demanding payment upon arrival, hovering as I complete the review, not mentioning damage) – just one mover was friendly and competent DAMAGE TO HOUSE: Stairway wall Hallway wall Stair tread Bonus room wall DAMAGE TO PERSONAL PROPERTY DURING MOVE: -LG refrigerator (door could not be put back on and the interior was destroyed; this was packed by NorthStar) and several dents and dings to the exterior -Destroyed neon light -Destroyed electronic panel on elliptical machine -Numerous broken glassware items -Cracked back of mirror (packed by NorthStar) -Hole in shelf (packed by NorthStar) -Destroyed bicycle tire and bent rim -Numerous boxes/storage containers were crushed/destroyed Per the terms of the contract, I was paid $100/day for each day they were late ($500) and the insurance only covers $0.60/pound for damages to personal property which doesn't even cover 10% of the cost to replacing/repairing the fridge and the elliptical!!! The second mover was friendly and competent and seemed concerned when I pointed out a few of the issues that I notice immediately and said that I would need to notify the main office. As they finished the unloading, one mover showed me that parts were missing/broken on the refrigerator door and that he could not reinstall it (NorthStar on the California end had taken the doors off of the refrigerator and packed it). As the movers were getting ready to leave, the one asked/told me to fill out a survey and then stood over me watching how I would rate them; I was completely uncomfortable and felt obligated to give a good review. Once the movers left, I went to look at the refrigerator (which is now taking up substantial space in my garage) and when I turned the door around I found a huge gouge in the interior of the door. The mover never even indicated that there was any damage other than the missing/broken hinge, and he had left the door against the wall with the interior not showing. There are also several small dings in the stainless steel and plastic portions of the refrigerator. Later that night when I went to look at other items, I found many broken/destroyed/damaged. The entire electronics unit of the elliptical machine had been ripped out and place in the mounting like there was nothing wrong with it. My neighbor stopped by to ask how things went and said that when the movers first opened the moving van he had looked in and that my boxes and containers were completely crushed; he said he knew there had to be substantial damage. The movers were supposed to deliver by no later than Thursday, 8/24/17; on Wednesday, 8/23/17 after hearing nothing, I contacted NorthStar to find out what time on 8/24/17 the movers would arrive. I was told at that time that the movers were running behind and they may not arrive until after Friday, 8/25/17 but that I would get a call daily with an update. On 8/24/17 I did not get a call, so on 8/25/17 I called NorthStar again. At that time I was told that the movers would not arrive until early the following week. On Monday, 8/28/17 I received a call from the mover telling me he was on his way and would be arriving the morning of Tuesday, 8/29/17. Upon arrival, the first thing the mover asked for was payment. Only two movers were there to unload. I had the AT&T repair arrive at the same time, so after giving the movers payment, they began unloading as I dealt with AT&T. I noticed that several boxes being brought in were destroyed. I tried to make the mover aware of the issues, but he’s English wasn’t very good and he didn’t seem to understand my concern, and the other mover was on his phone; so, I contacted NorthStar’s main number and told them I would definitely have damages to report. Hired NorthStar Movers for a move in LA, and I couldn't recommend them more! They were punctual, professional, careful, and moved with a sense of purpose. Getting around in LA is no easy feat, but they were able to find my building, get everything 8 stories down to their truck quickly, transport everything to my new place, and haul it all 12 stories up from there. There was damage to a cheap bookcase I had, but I honestly believe it was due to the cheap, poor construction of the case itself (it was a $40 build-it-yourself one). I cannot say enough about Northstar's service - it's incredible. We ended up having to move on a very tight timeline, and the team at Northstar were there for us every step of the way. Getting an estimate was painless - 15 mins and we knew what our max cost would be. From there Junior and his team took great care of us. Every piece of furniture and other fragile items like TVs and mirrors were carefully wrapped to ensure safe travel. They moved with purpose and speed but didn't rush - exactly what you want in a mover. Once we loaded up they took their lunch and arrived exactly when they said they would. From there they meticulously put our home back together, tackling the grueling tasks of putting all our heavy furniture back together. When the boyfriend and I moved into our apartment 2.5 years ago, we decided it was a temporary stay (due to the fact that we don't have A/C or heat...), and threw out all our crappy furniture to start anew. Gosh, everything seemed ok, at first. It was suppossed to be a simple move from Glendale to Seal Beach. And you guys seemed so awesome in your YouTube videos... You get two stars because you arrived on time and worked quickly. BUT... Excellent moving experience from start to finish. Moved from West LA to Claremont. Received referral from a family member who had a positive experience. Scheduled estimate with Gil who was extremely professional, polite, and fast. He walked through our home and provided us with an accurate estimate in about 15 minutes. Answered all of my questions and was very flexible. Moving company called to confirm crew arrival several days before move. Movers called on day of move to confirm and arrived early. We moved over 2 days to avoid overtime as per Gil's recommendations and had Eduardo, Jessie, Jimmie, and several others - all were excellent! We had a few last minute questions on Sunday (2nd day of move) and Gil was available, answered the phone and all of our questions. Absolutely the company we will be using from now on when we move. The guys were on time, very friendly and hustled like crazy. We filled the truck to the brim and it took almost exactly the asking of time estimated. I gave them 5 stars despite the fact that my laptop was broken. Because I packed it, their insurance didn't cover it and if it did, it would have only paid $.60/lb so we didn't bother filling a claim. However, the customer service agent insisted that she wanted to do something for us for the inconvenience and offered a $100 reimbursement check. This was a slightly bumpy ride that all turned out well in the end, thanks to truly exceptional customer service from NorthStar Movers' headquarters. Before I get into the details of my experience, the main takeaway here is that you should not hesitate to tell the crew manager if you're unhappy and/or call the main office, who assured me that they take customer feedback so seriously they will even send out a new moving crew, mid-move, if you're not thrilled with your current team. While I wasn't unhappy with my team (I certainly wouldn't have swapped them out for a new crew!), I wasn't blown away by them either. Although my movers were super nice and careful, I did have to point out things they had not yet packed -- entire cupboards and drawers -- and I found a few things in the house at the last minute, before they pulled away from my old address, which I managed to sneak into the back of the truck just before they closed the door. Somehow a couple of things also went missing, I discovered as I was unpacking -- nothing of great monetary value, just things with sentimental value to me. Once I discovered the missing items a few days later and called them, NorthStar managed to track down my misplaced garden statue, which had been left on the truck, and generously compensated me for the other two missing things: a winter coat and a back massager. I told them at that time, while I had someone from customer service on the phone, that I had been unimpressed by the general "hustle" of the team, which wasn't as drill-sergeant-ready as some crews I've used in the past, who have a super clear system and assembly line-esque matrix in place. I also mentioned that I felt the crew did a somewhat illogical packing job, in places, which I discovered as I was unpacking. For example, the components of a stand mixer from the kitchen was somehow packed in two (or maybe three) different boxes. This made unpacking and putting things away pretty annoying at times. But NorthStar also compensated me for an hour of move time, since I was unhappy with the overall speed of the move, and told me that they're always happy to give you a "not to exceed" price or flat rate, if you call an estimator to come by before your move. That way, you never pay for the crew's slowness -- they do. This was great advice, which I will definitely use moving forward. So, all in all, NorthStar Movers is an imperfect moving company (like all of them) that really cares, and I trust a company that takes your feedback so seriously that they do everything possible to make you happy in the end. This my second move with Northstar. My crew was: Ivan Alvarado, Artem, Elio Bernal and Junior (Samoan). They were respectful of my space, belongings and my building's rules. I know that everything I moved is in good hands. Nite that this is a long distance move so this review covers the Los Angeles, CA portion. Ivan called me at 7:15 to alert me that the arrival time would be 9:30. The arrival window I was given was between 8-10. They arrived at 9:30, reviewed all of the items to be moved and got to work. There was a constant flow of movement and it seemed as if they had done this a million times. The only thing I would have done differently is hired them to pack my entire house. The truck arrived right on time and the staff were friendly and professional. NorthStar Movers make the whole experience so easy. The process started 3 weeks ago. We called for an estimate and Alan was able to stop by at a convenient time. He spent about 25 minutes walking around our house and taking notes. Then he ran the numbers and gave us the price. Alan was upfront about all the costs and said we could change the item list at anytime. About 1 week later we called NorthStar to schedule the move. The office staff were friendly and informative. They were able to schedule the best date and time for our move, which was really helpful. We packed all of our own stuff. It was the only unpleasant part of the move. We should have hired NorthStar to do it for us. ;) The movers called us 1 hour before arrival. This gave us a chance to make sure everything was ready to go. Truck #113 showed up on time. Calvin, Luis, Richard and Bryan were on the crew. We spent about 10 minutes going over the paperwork and reviewing the items to move. The crew moved everything into the truck in a flash. They were very careful with our boxes and furniture. Update: The moving crews on both ends of the move were excellent. I am dropping my review from 5-star to 3-star for the following reasons. (1) I specifically asked NorthStar if their trucks would drop-off my stuff. I didn't want someone else handling my belongings without first checking on the company. Alan told me yes. The movers who dropped off my stuff were from a different company, based out of Chicago. I felt like NorthStar was not truthful when they told me it was be NorthStar trucks on both sides. (2) The office personnel in charge of long-distance moves at NorthStar did not reply to my emails ever nor did they return my phone calls in a timely manner. That was frustrating at times. Update 2: While opening our boxes we discovered water damage. It was recent because the boxes were still wet. Luckily we packed towels at the top of the boxes and those managed to absorb the water. Update 2: While opening our boxes we discovered water damage. It was recent because the boxes were still wet. Luckily we packed towels at the top of the boxes and those managed to absorb the water. We hired NorthStar Movers for a cross country move. They gave us a fair price on the moving estimate. They answered all of our questions. The truck arrived right on time and the staff were friendly and professional. NorthStar Movers make the whole experience so easy. The process started 3 weeks ago. We called for an estimate and Alan was able to stop by at a convenient time. He spent about 25 minutes walking around our house and taking notes. Then he ran the numbers and gave us the price. Alan was upfront about all the costs and said we could change the item list at anytime. About 1 week later we called NorthStar to schedule the move. The office staff were friendly and informative. They were able to schedule the best date and time for our move, which was really helpful. We packed all of our own stuff. It was the only unpleasant part of the move. We should have hired NorthStar to do it for us. ;) The movers called us 1 hour before arrival. This gave us a chance to make sure everything was ready to go. Truck #113 showed up on time. Calvin, Luis, Richard and Bryan were on the crew. We spent about 10 minutes going over the paperwork and reviewing the items to move. The crew moved everything into the truck in a flash. They were very careful with our boxes and furniture. Update: The moving crews on both ends of the move were excellent. I am dropping my review from 5-star to 3-star for the following reasons. (1) I specifically asked NorthStar if their trucks would drop-off my stuff. I didn't want someone else handling my belongings without first checking on the company. Alan told me yes. The movers who dropped off my stuff were from a different company, based out of Chicago. I felt like NorthStar was not truthful when they told me it was be NorthStar trucks on both sides. (2) The office personnel in charge of long-distance moves at NorthStar did not reply to my emails ever nor did they return my phone calls in a timely manner. That was frustrating at times.
