We have used other movers before but nothing has compared to the service provider by North Star moving. Deven called before arriving and gave an accurate estimated time of arrival. David, Tyler and Deven were extremely kind, helpful and efficient. They treat you like family. They arrived with a 26ft truck and were able to move not only one apartment, but two in about 3-4 hours. They were diligent in packing and protecting all of our furniture so as to not damage anything during the move. We will definitely be using this company in the future for every move and recommending them to all of our friends. Very fair rates and prices. They are very transparent and do not hit you with any hidden fees at the end! I rate these guys a 12/10! Thank you so much for your wonderful service. David and his coworker/friend could have rushed up 38 stairs to quickly unload my things because they were heavy, but nope, they took their time coming upstairs to make sure nothing got damaged. Now mind you, they could have rushed because the NorthStar guys in San Jose, Ca, wrapped my things so securely nothing could have gotten broken. And David, here in Texas, encouraged me to count my boxes as they brought them inside my place to make sure all my things had made it! Another great thing about Northstar is, it only took 7 days for my things to arrive, the pick-up was Monday from California, and the delivery date was Sunday in Houston, Texas. I have to give so much praise to Lorena, I booked this move in March, but it wasn't going to be until May. She stayed in contact with me every step of the way. I was giving stuff away in those two months, and Lorena would change my quote without any problem. Another thing Lorena did, she gave me information about a reliable car service to have my car transported to Texas, and that was quick too. The TL;DR: we hired NorthStar for a cross-country move + storage and they were exceptionally responsive and professional across the board. I 100% recommend them. The folks don't mess around! I investigated 4 other full service movers for our Austin-to-NC move and no one came close in customer service or price -- and that's just during the sales call. When the move day came, the whole team rolled in with infectious good spirits and did a fantastic job wrapping our furniture and packing the truck. Though our goods were loaded into a truck, then into storage, and then into another truck again -- and we were nervous about that -- nothing was lost or damaged. My expectations were that *something* would go wrong. And all that happened was that some terrible weather pushed our delivery date 1 day past our window. Northstar has moved us 5 times - twice this year. We weren’t in a good situation and the move out of Texas was booked quickly and easily. I had never been more excited to see a Northstar moving truck IN MY LIFE. Out jump CJ and David and immediately all my worries we’re gone. They were very professional and an incredible team. Usually we have 3-4 guys for our moves…. CJ and David had us packed up and ready to hit the road by the time we had to pick our daughter up from school. They were so incredibly hard working and quick! They put some of the other crews we’ve had in CA to shame. CJ and David are a dynamic duo who come from diverse backgrounds but are all around amazing men and the exact kind of ones you can trust with your belongings. David called me ahead of time to let me know our stuff would be arriving at our final destination (a few states over) sooner than later, collected final payment and squared us away. My husband, pups and daughter really lucked out with this team. They gave us the reassurance we needed that we were going to be ok and our stuff was packed without a chance of breakage. They took note of specific things that meant a lot to us - my husbands Budweiser neon from his dad, grandads flag from his coffin, sentimental baby items etc. By the time our house was packed and ready to go we felt our belongings were in great hands and we had made new friends. The movers were supposed to deliver by no later than Thursday, 8/24/17; on Wednesday, 8/23/17 after hearing nothing, I contacted NorthStar to find out what time on 8/24/17 the movers would arrive. I was told at that time that the movers were running behind and they may not arrive until after Friday, 8/25/17 but that I would get a call daily with an update. On 8/24/17 I did not get a call, so on 8/25/17 I called NorthStar again. At that time I was told that the movers would not arrive until early the following week. On Monday, 8/28/17 I received a call from the mover telling me he was on his way and would be arriving the morning of Tuesday, 8/29/17. Upon arrival, the first thing the mover asked for was payment. Only two movers were there to unload. I had the AT&T repair arrive at the same time, so after giving the movers payment, they began unloading as I dealt with AT&T. I noticed that several boxes being brought in were destroyed. I tried to make the mover aware of the issues, but he’s English wasn’t very good and he didn’t seem to understand my concern, and the other mover was on his phone; so, I contacted NorthStar’s main number and told them I would definitely have damages to report. I was told to call them back once everything was unloaded and they would direct me on how to handle the claim for damages. The one mover was not careful at all and kept hitting my walls (my house is a brand new custom-built home) and scuffing the stairwell. The second mover was friendly and competent and seemed concerned when I pointed out a few of the issues that I notice immediately and said that I would need to notify the main office. As they finished the unloading, one mover showed me that parts were missing/broken on the refrigerator door and that he could not reinstall it (NorthStar on the California end had taken the doors off of the refrigerator and packed it). As the movers were getting ready to leave, the one asked/told me to fill out a survey and then stood over me watching how I would rate them; I was completely uncomfortable and felt obligated to give a good review. Once the movers left, I went to look at the refrigerator (which is now taking up substantial space in my garage) and when I turned the door around I found a huge gouge in the interior of the door. The mover never even indicated that there was any damage other than the missing/broken hinge, and he had left the door against the wall with the interior not showing. There are also several small dings in the stainless steel and plastic portions of the refrigerator. Later that night when I went to look at other items, I found many broken/destroyed/damaged. The entire electronics unit of the elliptical machine had been ripped out and place in the mounting like there was nothing wrong with it. My neighbor stopped by to ask how things went and said that when the movers first opened the moving van he had looked in and that my boxes and containers were completely crushed; he said he knew there had to be substantial damage. I cannot say enough about Northstar's service - it's incredible. We ended up having to move on a very tight timeline, and the team at Northstar were there for us every step of the way. Getting an estimate was painless - 15 mins and we knew what our max cost would be. From there Junior and his team took great care of us. Every piece of furniture and other fragile items like TVs and mirrors were carefully wrapped to ensure safe travel. They moved with purpose and speed but didn't rush - exactly what you want in a mover. Once we loaded up they took their lunch and arrived exactly when they said they would. From there they meticulously put our home back together, tackling the grueling tasks of putting all our heavy furniture back together. If that wasn't all enough, because Junior and the team were so good and so efficient they finished early and came in under budget! We are so grateful to them for their help, professionalism, attention to detail, positive attitudes and speed during this stressful time in our lives. It all began with a video estimate. I downloaded the app onto my phone prior and at the appointed time, Gloria sent me a link, I clicked on it and presto! We were live on a video chat. I would say we spent about a half hour (perhaps a little more) going through my house. I was able to show her the rooms’ contents, the contents of our cabinets and all that so she could have a better idea of what we were moving and therefore provide a better estimate to avoid any surprises along the way in what this move would cost us. Based on reputation, I was comfortable trusting them to be able to do what they said they would do. For the record, I did get a second quote from another moving company and NorthStar Moving beat their quote significantly. The other company, also with a good reputation, did not offer unpacking services but they did do packing as well, of course, as moving. NorthStar Moving's quote turned out to be significantly less than the other company PLUS NorthStar Moving’s quote included unpacking in addition to packing and moving. So, the day of the move came and a few minutes before 8:00am, our team, led by William P. (Team Leader), along with Benjamin S., Jorge M., Jorge L. and Hector G., arrived. It seemed like I had just shaken William's hand, turned around to say hello to the rest of the team, turned back and William already had a half box of our dishes in the kitchen packed. When I say they wasted no time getting to work, it's true. The rest of the day, they moved so quickly, the contents of each room quickly disappearing into boxes. Those things that could not go in a box, like our baby grand piano, were expertly wrapped in moving blankets and everything was handled with care. By the end of the first day, we were entirely packed. We had so many boxes, each of which was labeled. That completed the first day. Everything was ready for loading onto the truck. Frankly, I was exhausted even though I had not lifted a finger. All we did was to answer questions. The movers did the rest. I think it is important to stop here and talk about customer service. The team stayed upbeat and positive despite the 100 degree heat outside and the obvious strenuousness of moving all our stuff. It’s been many years since I moved myself and I still recall how it is really, REALLY hard work. Throughout the move, they were in good spirits, upbeat and positive. I have so much respect for a person working that hard and yet still having a genuine smile. As a matter of fact, after the third day when they left, I actually missed them. They were that likable. Hats off to William P. (Team Leader), Benjamin S., Jorge M., Jorge L. and Hector G! Day two of the move began promptly at 8:00am just like the first. The movers arrived and immediately set about loading the boxes they had packed the previous day onto the truck. We had many boxes along with couches, beds and all so it took some time to load up the truck. By early noon time or so, everything was on the truck. We had filled up one of their moving trucks completely. I mean, there was not room for another item. I think we put one last something with the guys in the cab but that was it. After breaking for lunch, we met at our new home and without missing a beat, boxes were flying off the truck but always handled with the utmost care. I can vividly remember the guys dropping off a couple boxes inside then running back to the truck. And throughout it all, everything was handled with great care. In the final analysis, all our items arrived safely without a scratch. By the end of day two, all the boxes were in the house. Everything that had been wrapped up, such as the couches and piano, were unpacked and placed where we asked them to be placed. Again that day, we just directed traffic. The guys did the rest. Coming into the third day, I was feeling it but if William, Benjamin, Jorge, Jorge and Hector were exhausted, it was impossible to tell. They unpacked our things out of boxes and took the boxes with them which gave us a head start on getting settled into our new home. I made a point of writing this detailed review because I was that impressed with this company. In this day and age, sometimes it feels like customer service is a buzz word from my parents’ era. But NorthStar Moving came through for us at a time when we were feeling the stress of having just bought and sold a home, not to mention the stress of the physical move. We headed out in the a.m. (slept on the floor with our stuff in the house) and took everything out of every car each evening as we traveled from hotel to hotel until our arrival. Upon arrival we had so much to do including unpacking the four pods that had arrived and painting and such. I placed the sealed "Debi's Car" box on the shelf in our walk in closet and didn't touch it until after the HORRIBLE crew that delivered our stuff had gone. The delivery was horrid. They scratched floors, dumped items all over the living room and garage that belong elsewhere, the local crew that was suppose to come---didn't and the delivery crew said if we wanted more people to help we needed to come up with more money. My husband, son and myself carried furniture and boxes everywhere. We worked non-stop throughout the day. My husband cut himself trying to carry mattresses and I hurt my back carting heavy items that should have been carried by the moving crew. They lost our leather couch and had a third party crew deliver it DAMAGED the following week. We found the straw hats jammed into the LOCKED armoire that was also in the master bedroom (and somehow unlocked by the crew) and a box packed by the movers. It is important to note: No one had contact with "Debi's box" from the time I found it sealed in the office to that awful moment I opened it to find that my jewelry box was missing. I contacted the LAPD and NorthStar immediately and spoke to Monique from NorthStar. She claimed she was doing an internal investigation and was only half done and would get back to us the same day. We heard nothing from her and her "private number" was just the main number. I YELPED for help and Lauren Fitzgerald responded and said that we had been told "last week" that they would contact us within 24-48 hours. CRICKETS. Then a person claiming to be Wendy De Paola emailed me and said she was taking over from Monique and would have a report to us by the end of the upcoming week. When she didn't call, we called her. We have never spoken to her--she just emailed she received my husband's message and needed another week and would cooperate with the police. Then she emailed me and said she had been contacted by the police and would be dealing with them. So--to be crystal clear. No one has spoken to US, the VICTIMS from NorthStar, about what we know except asking me to describe my jewelry box in emails and claiming these items were "missing" and that the crew was "devastated" by my loss and that THEY were suffering terribly. This company not only stole our jewelry and heirlooms, they took my memories.. And now they keep informing the world how HURT they are, how SAD they are, and how GREAT their reviews are but that "They take theft seriously." So seriously, they have never spoken to the victims in almost 4 weeks over our losses. Read More
