Based on numerous moves throughout my life, it's my experience that my recent experience(s) w/ Moving By Design resulted in more damage, "missing" of my goods, unprofessional & careless handling of my valuables than the cumulative total of my moves over the past 50 years. My first experience w/ MBD, was last fall when they moved a buffet from a Houston antique store to my Galveston home. Initially, I was pleased with the delivery & it wasn't until my March, 2021 move by them, that my opinion of them changed dramatically. A short time after the buffet was delivered that I realized that 3 custom shelves were missing. MBD stated that didn't take anything out of the buffet. On March 10th of this year, they were hired to move me to Houston & were supposed to arrive early AM. I had also made arrangements to store my furn @ his warehouse for a week. I was told my items would remain on the truck in a well lit area of his lot. The owner, Tim, called me to tell me they were running late & they should be there mid afternoon. When they still hadn't arrived hours later, Tim told me "not to worry, there were 4 movers & it would go fast". They finally arrived at 4:00 to load. I had boxes in the garage & told them all there were boxes on one side of the garage that they were not to take. I also asked them to please treat all boxes as fragile. They finished @ 11ish, too late for me to leave the island. Due to a delay of completion of my new condo, I asked if I could leave my furniture for one more day, with delivery on Thursday, the 18th. Then MBD requested to deliver on Friday morning, which Tim later demanded the delivery time to the afternoon. Damaged Goods: * A decorative planter packaged by MBD * A large heart mirror packaged by MBD * Antique sideboard that I have successfully moved numerous times w/out any damage since 1987 purchase. * Antique glass flower pot w/ glass flowers & leaves- mover brought it in & just dropped it, despite being wrapped in movers blanket. He said he "didn't know it was breakable". Missing Items & Valuables: * Corner Tiffany Style Floor Lamp (I found the top, not base w/ lamp) * Yamaha Sound Bar (I found remote & owner manual) * Antique "Nodder" * Clothing * Food products After the move & my discovery of the MIA & damaged valuables, I contacted Tim during March & April Seeking assistance for my loss & damages. He referred me to his assistan, Christi, who also was difficult to get in touch with. She told me they couldn't repair the mirror (decorative/ hanging top came apart from the mirror), she said per TxDot MBD had 90 days to settle w/ me & she wanted to know how much it would take to settle. Knowing that many of the items from my deceased Mother we're irreplaceable $/oe we're no longer available, in good faith, I told her $350 which doesn't begin to compensate for my losses as a result of my move(s) with MBD. Instead of Moving By Design accepting & reimbursing me for my losses & damages, they offered me $200 to settle. Since I considered this to add insult to injury to my costly move, I have a decided that I will be filing complaints with transportation & consumer agencies that protect the public. Read More

They sent me three very experienced and professional movers. They moved me from a 1 bedroom apartment to a two bedroom. I was so impressed by the move that I knew they would be my to go to movers for any future moves. I contacted them back in April and set up a day and time. I contacted them a second time to change my date from June 26 to June 22. On the morning of June 22, 2020 two men showed up. Not the three men I was promised. I could tell right away that one man had no experience at all and the second man had minimal experience. They completely fumbled the move. My heart is broken and now feel violated by a company that I trusted with all my possessions. Attached are pictures of how they left my furniture. My son had to come over and put the bed back together. It was a disaster and i was charged for 8 hrs of moving. They had about 5 hours of down time. They left at 11:45 am to go to lunch and came back at 1:45 pm but did not get out of the truck until some time after 3:00 pm. They actually left the property with all my boxes on the truck. I filed a complaint with the BBB asking for a receipt and a complete record of the move paperwork . MBD has not responded to my complaint or provided me my resolution. My son had to come over and put the bed back together. It was a disaster and i was charged for 8 hrs of moving. They had about 5 hours of down time. They left at 11:45 am to go to lunch and came back at 1:45 pm but did not get out of the truck until some time after 3:00 pm. They actually left the property with all my boxes on the truck. I filed a complaint with the BBB asking for a receipt and a complete record of the move paperwork . MBD has not responded to my complaint or provided me my resolution.
