Contacted Merit as an agent of United Van Lines for our cross country move. The estimator, Joe, was very professional & helpful in explaining the process. The binding estimate was very fair & competitive. As we prepared for the move, Alyson was very prompt in answering our various packing questions. She checked in with us during the process, on loading day & delivery. At both ends of the move, the local hires were excellent. Our household items were carefully packed and protected. At delivery? The crew was especially considerate and professional, placing our furniture just where we requested. Finally our driver, Robert (Fitz) could not have been more professional, helpful or accurate with our items. Everything was delivered- with only two small glasses broken (packed by me). Added plus? I have done a ton of moves through the military. When I finally left my new employer offered a moving package and Merit was assigned. Praise the moving gods for Merit!
What can I saw, except, FLAWLESS execution of a move. Solid driver, Larry through United Van Lines. The packers were so thoughtful with every item and followed my rules about smoking. Nothing damaged. Our shipment arrived as soon as we did (we already had a house at our final destination). And they were professional about my pets.

This review is overdue but moving halfway across the country keeps you tied up for a while. I started researching moving companies online in early 2021 for a planned move from L.A. to The Ozarks. What an eye opener. After reading hundreds of horror stories, I concluded that the moving industry is rotten to the core. It is corrupt and much of it is actually organized criminal enterprise. I learned everything customers did wrong and how they suffered for it. When choosing a business to hire, I always search out and study reviews, independent ones, not from the company's own websites. I came across Merit Moving Systems and they had an exceptionally good reputation in their customer reviews. I called them and set up a video walk-through, then accepted their bid. I did all my own packing (153 boxes). My move got postponed through no fault of my own, but it was no problem for them. Fast forward months, to move day, December 29th. The crew/truck were right on time. The four guys did a fantastic job and were in and out in a couple hours. I did make it easier for them as I had stacked and labeled all my boxes in the garage. At our new place in Missouri, they missed the delivery window by four days but once somebody explained the situation to me over the phone, it was all good. The crew showed up for the delivery right when they said they would. They did an awesome job, even though it was snowing the whole time. Later we got a refund for both the late date and the weight over-estimation. We cannot overstate what an excellent job everybody at Merit Moving Systems did for us. All our stuff: 153 cartons plus furniture, showed up safe and sound. We would definitely recommend them and would hire again. Read More

We had to use Merit Moving for our cross country relocation to California. The office staff was polite, accommodating and usually timely with responses in the earlier phases of the move. The actual move crews were extremely disappointing on both ends. The packers shoved things in places they didn’t belong, wrapped things like tiny diamond stud earrings in gigantic 3 foot pieces of crumpled papers so they easily were thrown away not knowing it was something fragile.
We had to label our items to be delivered to our temporary (corporate housing) location or to our final destination. Upon arrival at our temporary destination where our family of 5 would be living for 3 months, we found that many of our items that we needed and labeled for temporary housing did not arrive. They told us they’d arrive at the final destination instead. Our new, expensive large Yeti coolers were some of those items and they did not arrive at our final destination either. I filled out a claim form and was told that since I didn’t note them as missing on the day of delivery, they could not be replaced or reimbursed. These items might not have been marked as they were large basement items. We had to check off boxes for little inventory stickers the entire delivery day. So be prepared if you have small children because if you miss checking some boxes or items that they bring into the house, they’ll tell you to put an X on it because “they already brought them in”, and you’ll be left responsible when they aren’t actually received.
When I was told they would not replace them, that was the final straw for us. I wrote an honest review online to warn others of our experience. I received a call from Shellie telling me that she would split the cost of the replacements with our relocation company… seemed fair, and we were so grateful. But then she said “we will do this but we ask that you delete your review online”. That’s not how reviews work- you don’t pay someone to delete a review- you should be working in an honest ethical way and earning the positive reviews. You own up to your reviews and take the good with the bad and improve when you get negative feedback. So, knowing that this is their practice, please take all the 5 star reviews that you see listed with a grain of salt. That just means that the others who had bad experiences were likely paid to delete their review.
Several expensive items were damaged including a leather sofa..when I showed them the broken part they forcefully pushed ALL of the sofa headrests back and forth (even though I said please don’t) & ended up breaking 2 more of the headrests. This crew is so far from first class w/how they handle a family’s valuable goods.
A very sentimental glass item that was a gift was broken in the move and they refused to replace it because we didn’t claim it on the day of delivery… but they had buried it in piles in our garage and we were NOT going to dig through the garage for quite a while, so we missed our opportunity. It was like they intentionally hid it.
After all of these various findings and refusals to reimburse, we knew we would NEVER recommend this company to anyone. Then, recently I was playing with my daughter on the floor of our dining room and I noticed a big crack line along our huge heavy china cabinet. Only because I was sitting close to it on the floor did I notice it and take a much closer look. It was a significant piece of the side that had been broken off and GLUED back onto the side of our furniture to make it appear intact. We couldn’t believe it!! So now not only had they broken something else but they had attempted to cover it up and not tell us. Of course I didn’t notice because they had deceived us and made it look intact. I would never want to see anyone have to experience such poor unethical service when it comes to their family’s treasured items. That Ethan Allen set should have been handed down to our daughter some day. We are just so upset about all
of it and will definitely not recommend nor will we use them when we move back to the east coast. Read More

We were in route to our new city as state. We had been emailing and texting their representative for a while. We had gave him dimensions of two storage units one semi full and the other not so full. We even sent him pictures. He asked what we had I there I told him everything from a one bed room apartment. So he mentioned somethings and I said a few more that were supposed to be written for insurance purposes.
When they sent me the form for me to sign like I said I was in route to my new place. They worded things so it seemed that it was for everything as we verbally told the rep. He quoted us $2144. He said that by law he had to collect 10% down even tho he was asking for more than half down. I wanted to pay it all since he was asking for half, he said he could not. He told me somethings that I forgot and when we tried to reach him he would not reply even sent a text that there was no such person and that it was a wrong number. I should have known by then I was ripped off! It's all how they word it that had me thinking it was for all my belongings not just the few key things we talked about. I knew I should had gone with Mission Transport, they were more honest and their price was $4,100 something with only $100 as a deposit. I thought I was getting the deal instead I lost a little over a thousand dollars. I will never recommend this company and will be posting this on my FB so all my friends know about this as well. Reliable, trustworthy, and professional truly describes this company. Our family has used Merit Moving Systems for years including a long haul move to Chicago. Our most recent experience was a move from a single story whole house to a second story condo. Four guys accomplished this task in 10 hours with nothing broken or scratched. The men worked non-stop with only a couple of short breaks. Our rep John Horist and his assistant Sandy were on top of it making sure we were happy.
