UDPATE: Lee's waived insurance and paid $200 for the lamp. 9/17/21
UPDATE: The company has since reached out to discuss and resolve the issues. Trevor was very helpful and understanding. 8/27/21
I wish that I could say my experience with Lee's was as good as everyone else's. Unfortunately that was not the case and I'm not really sure why. I did a long distance move from South FL to Alabama. I only called two companies for a quote and they were significantly higher by ALOT. I ended up going with them due to the reviews and recommendations. It was approx $6k to move a 2 bedroom apartment. I have moved four times in the last 6 years both interstate and locally and this was the most expensive. I would be totally fine with that, but I just felt the service did not match the price. Again, I want to make clear this was my personal experience. However, I do question if all of these reviews are legitimate.
I moved for work and had 30 days to report. They were available to pack me up on the day I wanted and it would be 2-28 days for the furniture to get delivered. They assured me it would not take 28 days. Pack up day went fine, or so I thought. They only take cash or Zelle as payment, which should've been the first red flag. I didn't know that zelle has a limit so I had to drive to the bank on loading day and take out cash. I paid for the final payment by cashier's check.
On approx day 14 of the 28 days I called Lee's to find out when my stuff would be arriving since there were only 14 more days left to get it to me and I hadn't heard from them. I spoke to someone named Carlos who told me it might be another week, but he wasn't sure. He also told me that if I lived on the east coast I would have had my furniture already since that was a more popular route. I would've liked to have known that in the beginning. I tried in the nicest way possible to get him to nail down whether it would be 3rd week or 4th week that I would get my stuff, but he could not say exactly. I explained I had been sleeping on the floor for two weeks and eating out since I could not cook. I was also scheduled to travel for work so I wanted to ensure I could be here to receive it. He provided no other info this day.
The following day I received a call from Carlos and he said my things would be in AL that week on Friday or Saturday. On Thursday I still had not received a call from Lee's so AGAIN I call them to find out what day they're arriving. They said it would be to me by Friday. The driver was more communicative than the folks in the office and he called me the night before and the morning of arrival. Everything was unloaded and later I noticed Several items were not in great condition. I asked Lee's to pack some wall hangings and some lamps. The wall hangings seem fine but the lamps were thrown in a box with no cushioning. During unloading it was discovered a ceramic lamp was broken. He said I could file a claim, but no apology or acknowledgement from Lee's. I would strongly recommend packing as much as possible yourself.
As I started to unpack, I realized a lot was damaged. A desk and side table both had to be reassembled since the screws and bolts started coming apart. The desk is still not right on one side. There was packing tape left on my TV both on the frame and the screen. The rug was rolled AND folded (!) and bubbles in multiple spots. A shelf that I've had for years and is not replaceable, was split on one side.I have a platform bed that has sunken pre-drilled screw holes. On further inspection I noticed screws were not drilled down all the way and one was actually not screwed in the pre drilled hole. It was so difficult to remove that one screw that the frame actually split where the hole was. All of this was beyond frustrating especially after a long distance move on my own and starting a new job. I also do not have the physical strength to repair furniture on my own bc it is so heavy! My furniture is not the most expensive but it is more sentimental than anything. Things break and at a minimum an apology would have been nice.My move was also not funded by my job, but paid for out of my own pocket. The entire experience with Lee's was disheartening and lot of $ wasted. Other than the lamp, I did not report any further damage to Lee's as I had 1k ded on insurance.
