Horrible experience. Classic example of a company that wants to play in the big boys club with structured process in client onboarding ( Excellent sales pitch of quality service , Account mgr assigned on signing, quality assurance mgr etc ) and constant auto generated mailers at every phase BUT ZERO CUSTOMER CONNECT or ENGAGEMENT. Had to chase at every step of the process but its a one sided communication most of the times. Final on the date of pickup, I realise the work is outsourced to a small time contractor who neither is equipped with right packing material nor the tools. I had to provide tools/Packing blankets hoping to safe guard some of the furniture. They load in two trucks instead of One and to my surprise, On the date of delivery its a completely different truck ( No wonder the amount of damages with no of transfers done between trucks ). Added to the misery they refuse to fix the unpacked furniture leaving me stranded with items all over the house. Only when I refused to sign the closing contract did they reluctantly fixed the beds/dining table and few items. Yet to unpack the boxes but dread the condition given the amount of damages to the furniture. Our experience with Colonial Van Lines has been a nightmare. On the phone, we were quoted 5-10 days to move our belongings from Houston to California. We paid the $1600 deposit. On January 2nd, 2022 our movers showed up. They told us an 18 wheeler couldn’t fit there and they need a special shuttle to get our belongings for about $400 extra even though our previous company used an 18 wheeler and just parked it on the street. Then, when they showed up we realized the job had been contracted out to a small mom and pop mover called Cal Van Lines (we were not given a heads up about this). AFTER loading our stuff that day they told us our stuff would arrive in 10 days because they had to go to Florida first. (Houston->florida->california???). On January 18th we got multiple calls from Colonial saying our stuff would arrive that day. I reserved the freight elevator but never got a call. I called Cal Van Lines directly and they told me that was completely false, that the van was currently in North Carolina, the driver had covid, the route had been impacted by winter storms AND the driver would be making a stop in New York before going to california. ??? I just got a call from them extending my delivery date for a FOURTH time. It is currently February 2nd, 2022. This marks one full month sleeping on the floor or an air mattress. I have had to repurchase my bed, pillows, pots and pans, utensils, clothes, and everything I need for a working setup from home (chairs, everything). Thank god I do not have kids that I would have to put through sleeping on the floor, and that we are young and healthy, but imagine another customer with a disability, or who is elderly, getting this kind of service from Colonial Van Lines. At this point, we are not even sure if we will ever get our belongings back or if they have been trashed or stolen. We already paid $1600, and the moving company is asking thousands more upon delivery which I am trying to negotiate away. I am beyond frustrated, because of Colonial Van Lines my move across the country was stressful and uncomfortable. My new home does not feel like home. I regret ever contacting Colonial Van Lines. Please do not use their service. ---- *UPDATE** My Items arrived 6 weeks later after initial pickup. Most of it arrived safely. Donna called me from the resolutions team. She helped me get a small refund in exchange for changing my review to 5 stars. However since I don’t think that’s ethical, now that I received the refund I’m moving it back to 1 star to reflect the quality of service provided by this company. Read More

Using this company has been THE WORST Customer service experience I have ever had. They sent a truck that was too full to accept my entire load then took their time getting me the rest of my belongings. 3 weeks to be exact. They trashed my furniture, their loaders lost my parts box, left tape and trash all over my house then had the audacity to ask for a tip and went so far as to suggest a trip to the atm. Kevin Unmacht the rep was no help at all while trying to get the rest of my load. Do not use this company under ANY circumstance. They tried to blame Allied and they were the ones who sent the truck out too full. I asked for a delay claim and they said they don't pay those for partial loads. Then said I got most of my stuff and really was not inconvenienced. The delivered the rest of my load and only after I lost it did the driver agree to go to Home Depot and get the parts I needed to set my bed and dining table up. He is the only one who gave a crap about customer service. Run Away from using this Company!!!! Read More

Summary: I recently moved from Sacramento to the bay area and was given this company as a referral from my Realtor. To his and my surprise this company significantly failed to perform anything close to a professional grade moving service, and I strongly advise against using this company to move or store your personal property anywhere in or out of the Sacramento area. Pros: The crew were friendly, especially the delivery crew. The delivery crew worked hard and efficiently. The estimator was friendly, responsive, genuinely cared, and attempted to provide a quality service when the remainder of the company management, storage, and pickup crew did not. Detail: My move was 2-part in that they 1) pick up items from my house in Folsom and store those items for 3 weeks before 2) taking those items out of storage, picking up the items at my girlfriends apartment in Davis, and moving everything together in 1 truck shipment down to the bay area. Those were the terms of our arrangement which ended up changing on the delivery day (with no notice given to me). I observed issues noticed right away with the initial pickup. The crew consisted of 3 which turned out to be a lead who until recently had experience doing commercial work, and 2 rookies with no prior experience. The lead had to oversee and give direction to the 2 rookies, who couldn't work independently on their own. They couldn't even disassemble a table without messing that process up. That could also be due to them not bringing any tools with them. The biggest impact from all this was a 6 hour pickup job that ended up taking 10 hours total; thus driving up my costs. The second impact was the rookie mistakes, e.g., dropping furniture pieces (right in front of my eyes). On the second pickup day they were 2 hours late with no phone call to inform me either. When I called in (which I had to do a couple times due to failed followup on their part) I was told 2 stories; a morning meeting ran 25 minutes late (which doesn't add up to 2 hours), and the assigned truck needed to be unloaded that morning. Regardless of the excuse they were late and failed to inform me. When I spoke to a manager (Brandi) she gave excuses with no effort to take accountability. They ended up sending 2 trucks and 5 men to perform the move, also increasing my costs. Damages: A major issue with this experience that many may not have to deal with is the 3 week temporary storage that I had to use. The crew responsible for unloading, storing, and loading the items from my house into temporary storage "vaults" severely mistreated the items and the state of my furniture and boxes indicates the crew exercised little to no care to any of my property. Boxes were torn and crushed, and furniture had heavy scratches and abrasions. Items marked fragile with (up) arrows were upside down and placed under other heavy (clearly marked) boxes.
