TERRIBLE. We hired MoveEast for our west coast to east coast move. We packed the boxes ourselves and only had their team move 1 piece of large furniture, a leather couch. The west coast movers absolutely destroyed our couch before it was even loaded onto the truck. I would highly recommend CA-NY Express. They are fast, friendly, and professional! For anyone who is looking for movers with cost-efficient prices and allows you to pack your own belongings, they are the company to go to. I just made my move from the South Bay to Brooklyn and struggled finding movers that worked for me. My job had offered some companies through my relocation benefits, however, each company that they recommended insisted on packing my items for me to "ensure that the items are packed well" so that my belongings wouldn't be damaged. This didn't work for my budget, and I saw that CA-NY Express would allow me to pack my own belongings. I reached out for a quote and someone called me just a few hours later. Ron was accommodating of my tight schedule as I had reached out only 3 weeks away from my move date. He was easy to reach for any questions about my quote. I found it easy to enter my inventory but definitely overestimated on purpose as I couldn't really quantify my stuff by box size...etc. My quote came out to about 3k to move about 1 bedroom's worth of belongings and a few big furniture items. My cost also included stairs at my Brooklyn apartment and some packing material I accounted for day-of. On move date, the team was professional and fast! I had numbered my boxes myself, but they came with numbered stickers with my name on it that made me feel like all my belongings were accounted for. I packed most things myself and asked them to pack my fragile items day-of. (I didn't trust myself.) They handled my glass standing desk very well, it came back with no damages! Due to NY's recent snowstorm, I was afraid my belongings would get delayed. However, they all still arrived in the estimated time frame. The movers in Brooklyn were fast, friendly, and efficient. They moved our items in each room we requested them in and had us check off the box number as each box was brought up. None of my items were damaged or lost. [Update] They reached out and made it right! They increased the amount of reimbursement due to the fact that there was such a large unexpected increase in expense. Their rep was really helpful in working with us to make us feel better about the whole process and helped make sure we could get as much repaired as possible. Original Review: We decided to have the movers pack everything since "they are so experienced", but it could not have been farther from the truth. Even the movers in NYC that unpacked our stuff were complaining that it made no sense, as they had trouble simply finding the items required to reassemble the furniture. Overall we had 3 items that we asked them to take special care packing, and all 3 ended up broken, as well as many other items that were scuffed, damaged, or outright broken in our move, with a total of 14 items damaged. We were moving from a one bedroom apartment, so that's a pretty large share of our total items. Also, even though I called in the quote several times and discussed the items at length with the customer service representative, we still ended up with $1300 extra on the day of packing. For that, I adjusted my review score for trying to help. Better late than never. I do still think they need to be more flexible as a whole, but maybe they'll change going forward if representatives like him continue to show they care. PREVIOUS: I'm so incredibly disappointed with this company. I should have known it'd be a probably when on move day they found reason to charge me an extra 300 dollars from the promised rate. Everything was packed poorly on their end, so that when it finally arrived my lamps were broken and my AC had been thrown around so much it was cracked and not functional. The movers said, just take pictures and complain to customer service. Which I did. Customer service is now putting me through a series of hoops to prove it, like notarizing my "evidence," and even then they would only cover a certain portion by weight. Do yourself a favor, go with a company that treats your property with care and respect and will actually hold themselves accountable for items they damage. Read More

Everyone we dealt with was nice enough, and I never doubted that they had the best of intentions, but in the end, they did a pretty bad job. I think they're just not a well-run organization. Lots of items arrived in bad shape. They literally snapped our couch. It's made out of solid walnut, and somehow they cracked the back right off it. I'm not even sure how that's possible--it must have either been dropped out the back of a truck or used as the base of a 30 food pyramid of furniture. Real bummer since they charged us extra to wrap and ship it due to its length. Beyond that, they broke: - The wheels on our filing cabinet. - Our drafting table. It arrived with pieces unscrewed and removed, I'm convinced they broke them and were embarrassed and figured it didn't look quite as bad with the pieces missing entirely. - Lots of thing in boxes. I think we may have underestimated just how much they get thrown / dropped during moving. - Some of the more delicate components on my bike Other annoyances: when they arrived for delivery, they casually mentioned that the couch was still in California. The guy wasn't sure why, but said they'd call to schedule delivery later. Over a week later, we still hadn't heard anything, so we called them. No one knew where it was, they just kept telling us they'd call us back when they knew more. It took a few more days before they tracked it down and told us they were ready to deliver it. Made an appointment for between 9-10am. At 10, they bumped the estimate to noon. They delivered it at 5pm, and I spent the entire day at home waiting. Anyhow, I'm planning on getting in touch with them about the broken stuff. Not sure how that's going to go, but I'll update this review with the rest of the story once I find out. UPDATE: They pay by weight for broken stuff, so we didn't get much. ~$100 for the broken couch. Even worse, for boxes, they don't have time to weigh them so they just guess an average weigh based on the box size. I think we got like $5 or something for those. Rather than writing an impassioned review because they ruined my table (see pictures please), I'll just lay out some facts so that you can decide for yourself if you want to use this company: 1) They were quick and responsive when I asked them to give me an estimate. 2) I mainly had a bunch of boxes and the main nice thing that I owned was a marble table (the first real adult purchase which cost a little over $1200) 3) They offered to build a crate for me for $200 to protect it. 4) When thinking about buying insurance, I thought well... the only main thing I have is this table and they are going to protect it with a crate because they are professionals (this is clearly where the story goes south). 5) The movers themselves in LA and NYC were AMAZING. The company management was not. 6) When arriving in NYC, everything comes and then they open the marble table crate. it's cracked along the middle seam, which meant it was irreparable. 7) The management also made me pay for things in the contract that I had already paid for or that was not going to be used, during the move-in day. The operator on the New York end was really awful and disrespectful. 8) I see my destroyed property and I'm thinking... they said they would build some special crate and clearly it did nothing. 9) I ask them to fix this issue. Their solution: $63 cause that's the basic insurance. 10) I didn't get more insurance because I RELIED on their services and PAID EXTRA. Think about it - a company tells you that they will specially build a crate to protect your possession. Such a reliance makes you think you're ok. 11) After weeks of taking up my time, they finally decided to also refund me $200 for the crate. 12) They told me that I was being pushy. And to be nice, they said they would give me $25 extra to cover my mailing and certification fees for more contracts to be filled. 13) IN SUM: My table worth $1200 was given $88. They refunded the $200 crate fee after I had to request this (which means I was basically not charged for it). But for the loss of the table I now had $88 whole dollars to find something new (mind you this table was a one of a kind piece). If you have nothing important, then use this company. If you have something more important, I would look elsewhere. The movers themselves were super nice. The company, if something happens to your stuff, is not so nice. Read More

At first I didn't want to go with them bc it was the cheapest quote and also the smaller company of the 3 on BBB. I wanted to go with a different company (the one whose trucks are all over the highway), however the rep from that company was really shady-- sort of a used car salesman type and took a long time to get me a quote. Noel Naughton from CA-NY express got me a quote within the same day. He was also very responsive to all of my questions/calls via both cell phone and email. (For example, after he already did the estimate, we bought a big, heavy crib for our baby so I called him up and he was able to add that to the quote immediately). In the end I went with CA-NY express based on a gut feeling that if the estimator was that much more professional and consistent, hopefully the rest of the experience would be that way. Noel thought our move was a 2-day job so on the first day, a crew of 4 guys arrived first thing in the AM. They packed up most of the house but left the bedroom so we could sleep there that night. The head mover told us that they were able to be so efficient because we were pretty organized. We already had our suitcases packed that we wanted to take with us on the plane, and had them in a corner labeled "DO NOT LOAD." We sort of just stayed out of their way. The 2nd day, again they arrived early, packed the bedroom and loaded everything on to the truck. They were done in less than 4 hours on the 2nd day, I was super impressed. They made us sign off on all the boxes and let us pay the majority by credit card. Also, I have to note, that the apt felt really clean after they left. They definitely tidied up after themselves. After the truck left, we got an email every business day updating us on the truck's location. It actually beat us to California because we took a couple pit stops to visit family. Once we got to California, our stuff all went into a storage facility while we looked for a new apt in the Bay Area (1 month free storage was included). Once we found our apt and knew our move-in day, we contacted CA-NY express and booked a delivery day a few days in advance. They came the scheduled day and brought everything into the house (you stand there with a checklist of all the boxes, and as each box is unloaded, you check it off on the list). They unpacked everything, I stuck around to kind of direct them where furniture should go etc, and then took all of the empty boxes with them, which was incredible bc the house felt pretty neat and put together by the end of the day. The balance was paid in cash. Everything was pretty much in tact except for the back of one of those crappy ikea book shelves had a little crack in it. But all of our nicer furniture was perfect without a scratch. One little pointer was that we had to buy additional insurance as this company doesn't offer the extra insurance through them. Noel instructed us which companies to get quotes from, and we went with the cheapest one, but we will not be needing to file a claim, which is a great feeling!! :) Another great thing was that the quote from Noel was a guaranteed quote, so even though in the end we had slightly more cubic feet than estimated, it still cost the original price.
