Please do not use Bekins. I had them move furniture out of our home to have the original hardwood floors in my 1891 home refinished. When they moved back in, they left gashes on the floor in every room of the house and damaged half of the furniture. If I could leave negative reviews I would. This company was hired by the military to facilitate a move for us from Virginia to Florida, and boy do I regret it. Our home got delivered in SHAMBLES, their own movers said they didn't want to drop off the belongings because of how bad the damage was. We're going on 2 months of the military pointing fingers at them, and them pointing fingers at the military. It's like 2 kids that can't play in the sandbox. Their manager came out to look at the damage the day it got delivered and called it a "complete loss" but has done nothing to help resolve it. I asked them to haul away the items that THEY broke and was told it is MY responsibility to discard (this is massive dining room table sets, chairs, couches, tv stands) everything. The company is required to unboxed the belongings when they get here, their movers told me that they don't do it. I was left unboxing everything with me and a newborn until I called and they sent some movers days later. Luckily the military provides attorneys who can represent us, so I will without a doubt be taking this case as far as possible. CHARGED $1300 OVER $1500, 120% GOOD FAITH DEPOSIT PLUS HELPED MOVERS UNLOAD THE TRUCK FOR 4 HOURS. TIMELINE OF EVENTS NOTED BELOW. ALL OF TGE INFORMATION IS VERIFIABLE BY EMAIL AND POSTED ALONG WITH THIS REVIEW.
1. Called Bekins on a Saturday and explained the move in detail with a customer service rep in a call center.
2. Notes from the call center rep sent to Sales Associate Alexandra Fico at Bekins location in Sarasota, FL.
3. Email sent from Alexandra to Tiffany (customer) with a standard message of cost breakdown.
4. No phone interview or physical walkthrough of the residence was completed by Bekins even though Alexandra stated in the email response it was going to be scheduled.
5. Tiffany tried to contact Alexandra on the phone many times and never received a reply back.
6. Tiffany received an email with the estimate on Wednesday the following week without any explanation of charges or confirmation from Alexandra or any Bekins employees.
7. Bekins sales manager over Alexandra, Scott Rhodes, called to collect a 120% deposit but had to adjust the travel time making the initial estimate $200 less than what was asked for to hold the move.
8. New Estimate received and no explanations given for items or at least a confirmation of breakdown of charges
9. Movers showed up around 9:00am on Saturday. Walked through the residence and began working. About 9:45am I got a call from Scott that they did not plan to do a partial pack and that I’d be on the hook for any extra time needed to complete the job. We provided a lot of the moving boxes at our expense.
10. By the afternoon I talked to Todd Cutlip who is Scott’s manager about what was going on. Was told that this would be resolved by Monday or Tuesday and they would decrease the costs since they caused stress, anxiety, and lack of professionalism and due care on the front end. Seeing that this could take 15 hours with 3 movers me and my wife and my 12 year old were forced to help unload the truck at the new residence for over 4 hours.
11. Monday came and gone. Tuesday I received a call from Scott to pay the full amount for the time spent on the move. I paid $2700 with no updated invoice and no breakdown of charges. Was told the VP was involved and I’d know about any credit back to my card. Tuesday came and gone. Now Wednesday here and gone and still no resolution to this horrible nightmare.
Lastly I would not recommend this moving service to anyone who wants a smooth and honest professional process to complete during a stressful time. It is unfortunate and a shame that people are taken advantage of and are left with having to accept extra charges or fees or inconvenience because I’m moving day that is the only option. I will never recommend begin moving solutions to any of my friends or family and in order for me to be somewhat comfortable hi am asking they fully refund any overages that were beyond the initial estimate. Horrible! We hired these guys because they had their own employees do the packing. They were supposed to show up at 8:00AM, but didn't arrive until quarter to eleven (no, we did not get a full days work for our $1,600+, they left promptly at 5PM). We didn't realize how bad their work was until we began to unpack. All our wooden furniture was damaged, irreplaceable antiques were broken and ruined, several items were "lost" including our freezer handle (we can't use it without). In fact, the truck driver took down the model number and part number saying he would replace it. To date, we have heard nothing except that we need to file a claim and wait for their determination. We complained and were immediately turned over to the Wheaton/Bekins corporate people who said all we could do was to file a claim within 9 months and wait. Our local "conscierge" told us that she was told not to deal with us anymore. So, we paid $1,600+ for professional packing, but got a job I would expect from my grandchildren. Then another $7,000+- to have it shipped (arrived late and cost us another night in an hotel) with several items missing (me thinks items just don't go missing by themselves...). Hire these guys and you will regret it as we now do. They know all the tricks to screw you, and they use them! My opinion is that these guys are in it just for the money and will do whatever it takes to get the most out of you and then walk away like they have no responsibility.
